Prelim Task Mood Montage

In a group of 3 we got given a preliminary task to create a story board of a montage lasting no more than 40 – 60 seconds – that will convey the ideas, issues, themes, moods, emotions that are suggested within the brief.  From our story board we chose from some montage briefs to get an idea of what we want to base our ideas on.

We chose

• Fall 7 times, stand up 8
• Determination

So we created a montage and below is our attempt –

We then learnt how to combine the separate clips by editing them together using Premiere Pro. This took time because we had to crop the videos to make sure the clips weren’t too long. I think that our group have successfully conveyed determination through our montage.

The montage could of been better if –

• We used more than one actor
• Added transitions/effects
• We used a wider variety of shots; in particular more close ups
• To allow more time when filming to be able to get clearer more focused pictures

One cut in particular that created meaning successfully is at 0.37 where the music fits and links in well with the image. This image is also Dave trying again even when he failed before which presents determination to the audience and how to not give up.
