Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Above is a very small draft 1 of our video. We aim to get the majority of our shots in summer when the sun is out and in different areas.

What went well –

  • Artist turned up on time
  • Model brought all clothes
  • Knew the words
  • Able to work premiere pro easily

Targets –

  • Some of the selected footage is out of frame
  • Need various angels ie high and low
  • Want more different shots such as pan and Ariel to keep variety
  • More interaction with the performer to get more personal
  • Use various locations to add a bit of pace
  • Smooth transition shots

Design Skills 1

On premiere pro we were using lots of different effects and tools to develop our footage. The main tools that were key when adding effects are below;

  • Lumetri colour helps change the colour of you chosen footage. As you can see from the colour wheel below those are the colours you can choose from. Not only can you just add colour but you can change the vibrance and saturation ect. This has been very useful when wanting to add something extra to the footage and make it more fun and attention grabbing. The colours impact on the star image as they make her look more edgy which compliments the genre of R&B.

  • By using the effect controls we were able to change the positioning of footage, crop, rotate ect. This helped enlarge the desired areas of the image so it will make the audience concentrate on the specific area. Also by doing this it has helped add various shots to the video to keep it changing. Firstly I had to go into the transform button to drop it on my clip to then be able to do all the positioning effects. By being able to position the star around it made us able to focus the star for when being viewed which could help portray a connection from the star to the performer so they don’t feel isolated and feel involved.

  • Using generate has helped with adding unique effects to the footage, for example we used lighting in ours to add something small, simple and new. Not only did we add lighting but we also added colour from using the lumetri colour wheels. There are other special effects that we could use such as lens flare, and 4 colour gradient. I think using an effect like this is bold which represents the genre R&B as they are all confident, strong artists. It also displays a power for the star image.

Shoot 1 Reflection (Performance)

For our first shoot we went straight to the studio to get some simple videos we different angles to use. This made it clear for us to see what we like and what we want to get more of or different stuff. This was good as we were able to get some simple footage which we definitely have. Since it was so simple we realized we don’t really want to use studio shoots but more outside various ones however preferable on sunny days as that is the vibe we want for our video.

This means we are going to take our own time to go out around on better suiting days to get more shoots. Although by doing the studio shoots it has made it obvious on what we like and what else we want to do; for example moving and interactive shots, various angels with different locations. As well by doing the shoots I have noticed that the performer really sends through the energy and vibe so that is something we can work on.

Star Image – The Performer

The meta narrative of our star image is helpful to know as it is important to represent an image to the audience as it constructs her beliefs and values. We want to follow this so it appeals to our target audience.

Our main purpose of the music video is to promote the star, sell their music, and make as much money as possible.

Richard Dyer talks about the paradox of the star and how a star image is made up of an artist appearing extraordinary yet ordinary and relatable at the same time.

This is a canva we created portraying the star image of our artist, which includes key words which describe her. We want her to come across and friendly to attract and welcome an audience, bold and vibrant using colourful clothing and accessories to make her stand out, and positive and self-assured to make sure the audience see how confident she is in her song. This will help us to interpret her as energetic and relevant to modern pop culture.

Visual Shot List for Shoot 1 (Performance)

Here is a padlet of shots from music videos by our artist or other similar artists liked by our audience. We looked at different shots and what they portray. We are hoping to follow their ideas and this has made easy as we can look back. It shows various shots, angels ect we can use. Making sure the audience are provided with the genre conventions they expect to see, as we want to make sure our video conforms to their expectations so that it is ultimately, THE SAME BUT DIFFERENT so that it will follow conventions but be different and new and unique enough not to be boring. Ella Eyre shows many quick cut shots with various angles.

Pitch + Feedback

POSITIVES:

  • Decided to do it in an industrial setting to reflect society
  • We decided on outfits and colour scheme
  • Decided Alice will be in performance and narrative but will be cautious that she needs to film as well
  • Got a good narrative idea which can send a message to the audience
  • We have decided what days are best and are willing to put in a our time

NEGATIVES:

  • Need to be cautious to include Alice for filming
  • Identify more places to film so we can achieve more varied for the setting
  • The ending needs to be clear of what we are trying to portray
  • We need to borrow a camera as neither of us have one
