Production Meeting Agenda – Performance

We completed a production meeting agenda so that we were organised with our production in terms of our locations, outfits for characters, the date of the shoot etc. This has helped us in a sense that each of us had a clear idea of where we were filming, who was bringing in certain mise-en-scene and overall, avoided confusion.

Video planning – Shot analysis – Performance

We created a visual shot list for the performance section of our music video which gave us a clearer understanding of what type of shots (angles/movement/framing) we wanted and that would suit our video.

We have used examples of shots from music videos that come from bands in the Indie/Rock genre.

Narrative/Performance Timeline

Our task was to create a timeline for our chosen song ‘You Found Me’ by The Fray and came up with performance and narrative ideas for the music video.

This gave us a clearer idea of what our music video was going to look like. Additionally, this helped us speed up the process when it came to filming on the day as we knew which shots to take already. What we learnt from this was that if you plan in advance it gives you an advantage when it comes to the production stage. Also, helped us become more organised with our planning documents and as a whole.

Star Image – 5 Seconds of Summer

We used Pinterest to explore the artist we have previously researched and studied to understand more about the artist.

The photos were of the band performing live, photo shoots and merchandise to see the type of artist they are and how their star image/brand is portrayed. Underneath the images we commented briefly with adjectives to sum up the representation of the band and their meta-narrative.

This has developed my idea and understanding of this particular artist and the ways the artists can communicate their star image.

Our Pitch – Feedback

We presented our pitch to another group which then followed by them giving us feedback.

This helped us a lot as they gave us ideas that we hadn’t already thought of such as the with the narrative, the girl could have an item of clothing precious to her and the man is portrayed as controlling by not allowing her to wear this item.

Our Pitch

In our group we created a pitch on Prezi to illustrate our idea for our music video. We included our narrative idea, the locations, the band, themes and subject matter and some other features.

This gave us the opportunity to explore our idea in depth and get to grips with elements such as narrative and performance and how we will carry out a successful, creative music video that has the conventions of the genre we are using.

Audience Ideologies

We created a fake Facebook page of what we think one of our audience members would be like. We included personal information about her such as age, where she was born, gender, relationship status etc along with other interests, education, groups, her type of friends and photos of her.

final audience profile

This task has allowed us to understand the typical audience and their features for our genre Indie/Rock.

Permission from artist

To ensure that we could carry on with our music video, we had to ask for permission from the artist who’s song we are using.

Above is a screenshot from Twitter showing my tweet to the artist asking for permission in which he replied and let us use his cover.

Joint Music Video Idea

In our group, we each conversed our ideas and displayed our mood boards and discovered that we all seemed to like a similar genre which was Indie/pop/rock. From this, we went on to find bands who fit into this genre and we found a song that we could all agree on which was ‘You Found Me’ by The Fray who are an American Indie/Rock band. We chose this song partly because each of our ideas for the narratives could be used in some form with this song so that it’s not just one persons idea.

This is the song we have chosen:
