Hello Media Studies

Throughout my A level media studies experience, I am hoping to enhance and develop my media skills. In order to achieve these skills I need to be a successful media prosumer. And to do this I must go into my lessons with an open mind and the attitude that even if Im struggling with the task, I will be able to get it done in the end. I will need to learn and develop skills such as:

Organisation Skills

  • I’d like to think of myself as quite an organised person, however I have a strong feeling that media studies will definitely help me to enhance my skills in this area
  • My time management is something I’d like to focus on in the upcoming months and years

Planning Skills

  • Planning is something I like to do a lot
  • I believe its something you have to do in order to have a successful piece of work
  • I’d like to acquire more skills in this area in a sense of developing more ways are best to plan in the world of media eg. mind maps

Communication Skills

  • I think communication skills are really important for media studies and a lot of the activities that will be carried out is based on group work
  • Without communication between your group, the final piece of work will not be as successful as it could be
  • In the upcoming months I’d like to focus on getting to know the class better, this will definitely help in a sense of making communication easier

Creative Skills

  • In the next couple months/years I’d like to really develop my creative skills
  • I’d say I am a creative person but it is definitely something that I can improve on
  • To achieve this I’ll need to do more research to widen my media knowledge

Im prepared to work hard in my upcoming A levels so that I can achieve the goals I am aiming for in terms of these skills listed above. I think if I can develop all of these skills further I will switch from being a media consumer to being a very successful media prosumer.

I am a Media Prosumer

What is it? For my media bubble I have included a wide range of media that helps to understand my personal identity. However, everyones personal identity will differ depending on what type of media they associate with their life. To create my personal identity I have chosen images that provide me with entertainment, social interaction and information – by adding numerous media sources such as;

  • Music
  • TV shows
  • News
  • Radio
  • Social media
  • Magazines
  • Films

What have I learnt? By creating this media bubble I have learnt, firstly, that to be a successful media prosumer you must include and provide a form of entertainment, social interaction and information so that it reaches a wider audience – making it become more successful. Secondly, I have learnt that media reinforces and informs who you are as an individual – again helping understand yours (and others) personal identity.

How will it help me? In the future in media, I think this collage will help me to have a better and more informative understanding of media itself. This will be important for my upcoming A-levels as I feel I will be able to make more informed decisions on how to be a successful media prosumer.

After exploring all the types of media that creates my personal identity, it has helped me to understand what my magazine has to be in order to be successful. I will need to make it eye catching to attract a wider audience and include useful information so that I can inform my audience. I will also need to subtly reinforce the readers personal identity, to help them understand what media style they like, and give them a larger opportunity to interact socially. To maximise its popularity it will also need to entertain and inform the readers as this is what the audience looks for.
