Print Production- Draft 2 Feedback/Targets

After creating draft 2 for my digi-pak and advert, I got feedback from other media students in a variety of ways.

Digi-Pak.

I created some vines, click below to view them:

‘Your shots are well composted and they all create a good sense mise-en-scene.’

Here is the process of collecting feedback through camera recording, vines and the feedback sheets, it briefly shows the media product too.
‘I really like the use of colours.’

I asked the audience what they thought the genre of our digi-pak might be to see if what we had created using the conventions of the Indie genre would be recognized by the audience.

Other media students looked at the digi-pak and gave us feedback on what they liked and disliked.
‘I like the font.’

From my recorded feedback, I got feedback on both my advert and my digi-pak.

For the advert, the star is positioned well. The title colour are the same as the daisies so it ties in and with the hit single of Wings appearing on it reflects our music video and ties all three media products together. The colours are used appropriately and they’re good. The use of mise-en-scene is good and the background stands out. The text and font fits in with our Indie narrative and genre.

From the digi-pak, our use of mise-en-scene is appropriately fitting for example, the use of colours. The digi-pak design and fonts tie in with the advert and the locations used in the design appear in the music video therefore they all reflect each other. Also the same costume on the front and back is good for continuity and the performer being alone on the back cover looking out to see reflects the theme of her being alone which is presented more in the music video.

I got some feedback from a media student in my class on a feedback sheet. From this I learnt that we used rule of thirds correctly and our shots are well composted. Also the variety of mid shots and close up’s used which reflect our genre. Photoshop and ICT have been used from making the sky slightly brighter. Our use of mise-en-scene for the locations and costume fits in well with the Indie genre. The layout and design makes them want to listen to the album. The use of fonts are big and bold but not too overpowering and the digi-pak and video fit well together and reflect one another.

From the feedback sheet for my advert, we used good composed shots and it looks professional and reflects the digi-pak. Also, the mise-en-scene illustrates the genre. However we could make the logos a bit smaller because they’re a bit intrusive. However, the colour of the text and how it swaps from white to black and black to white is effective.

Print Production- Draft 2

Digi-Pak.

For our draft 2, we had edited the photos on the inside of the case so that they are more central, for example the wide angled shot of the sea was slightly uneven during draft 1 so we adjusted this and changed the positioning of the font. We also changed the font to a bold so that it was clear to the audience.

Here is our draft 2 of our digi-pak, click to view:

As for our advert, we applied the same font as the digi-pak and from the feedback from draft 1, I turned it portrait so that it was conventional and put in the release date and a star rating.

Advert- Feedback

After applying the image and fonts onto the advert, I got feedback from my media teacher. As I didn’t want to play around with the image from the digi-pak and lack continuity by changing it to portrait, it’s not conventional to have a landscape advert. Therefore, I took into consideration this feedback and decided as one of my targets to change it to landscape. Also to crop it down and resize the image.

Also, other feedback from media students and my media teacher was to make sure to include and consider the branding, reviews and release dates.

Therefore, my targets for draft 2 is to include reviews and the release date and to change it to portrait so it fits in the with conventions.

Advert-Draft 1

When it came to making our advert, we had to take into consideration the design, fonts, star image, target audience and genre. We used the same image that we used on the digi-pak front cover as our advert background design so that they would link together and the audience would recognize the album by the advert.

I resized the original image from the digi-pak and made it fit onto A4 using publisher. As our performer is in close-up and right in the centre of the advert this makes our target audience and fan base aware that its for her advertisement.

Here the original image for the advert:

I cropped some of it down then applied the font ‘Moon Flower Bold’ in which we had downloaded for our digi-pak.

Digi-Pak Draft 1 & Feedback

For our draft 1 we short listed our images from our contact sheet to the 4 that we wanted to use as our front cover, back cover and left and right inside covers.

We edited the front and back cover to make it slightly more over exposed. During shooting day it was quite dull weather and our performer is in sunglasses so it wouldn’t make sense and would confused the audience if the weather was dull. Therefore making the images a bit more over exposed and heightening the brightness made the images make more sense.

Asking other media students, they’re overall view was that they liked the images however the right inside cover should be cropped in and focused with an even amount of the trees around the edges so it doesn’t look uneven.

Digi-Pak Evaluation

When it came to shooting day, we had our performer in her allocated costume and we met at the location we had arranged. We wanted to get lots of different nature shots to reflect the Indie genre and also in our music video we have a variety of different locations so having this on the digi-pak would fit in well.

We included a range of different framed shots. From wide angle shots, long shots and close ups. We found a grassy area with daisies and thought this would be a good area for having our performer lying in.

LYING PHOTO

We took a load of different shots so that we had more to edit and play around with and to try and avoid the risk of having to go out and re film. This meant taking some of the same photos however just in different framing so that we could see what works best.

Digi-Pak Contact Sheet

After shooting day for our digi-pak we created a contact sheet after uploading the images that we had taken and picking out the best ones. With the best images, we started editing and adjusted them to make them what we wanted.

Draft 2- Feedback

After uploading our draft 2 to YouTube we got some feedback over the comments.

Some of our performance shots seemed to be a bit too long however the lip syncing is good which we took our time over to make sure we got correct. Our variety of shots are good however some appear to be a bit shaky which we could adjust. Also we link in the lyrics with what is going on in the narrative and performance which is what we wanted to achieve.

I also collected feedback on a feedback sheet, view this below:

From this, our stronger points are the use of shots, how we used rule of thirds and the variety. Also our use of mise-en-scene is appropriate to the genre for example, our performers costume in the white dress and her make up reflects the Indie Folk genre. However, we could use some more editing techniques in premier pro instead of just the razor tool and cutting to make it a bit more interesting.

I also got some recorded feedback, this appeared to be most useful.

What we did effectively was the silhouette shot by the fire and the rest of the fire shots are good. The use of colours from the sky and the pan are nice and work well. Our use of lip syncing is really accurate. We use good camera skills and a variety of shots, the rule of thirds is evident when they’re in the car and the lighting on Ellie’s face when she is performing in the studio good because it focuses just on her singing. The selection of lighting when she is alone the lighting is low key and when they’re together the lighting is high key which reflects the audiences feelings. When she is centre of the screen it draws attention to her which is what we wanted to achieve. As for the ending of the music video the blur out is a good way to finish on.

To improve and what she didn’t like was the shaky shots however a couple of them work as it can be point of view shots. The use of mise-en-scene in the white dress lacks continuity as you can see the performers top straps underneath and a few shots later, they’re gone. However, the use of the extra material reflect the title of the song but gives her a religious look. The shots of her walking down the stairs is a bit too long, we establish that they’re the stairs for too long before she walks down them.

I also got vines from another media student for feedback on my draft 2:

‘I like the variety of shots that you use.’

‘I like the black and white shots to show her emotion and anger.’

Targets.

To improve our music video even more, we set ourselves targets on what to adjust and amend to make our music video as good as it can be. We’re going to crop down the shot of the performer walking down the stairs so that it doesn’t appear to long and also cut some of the irrelevant shaky shots out.

Draft 1- Feedback

For the feedback on our draft 1, I recorded other media students and got their opinions on what they thought could be improved and what we had done well. Due to the lack of footage that we had filmed our draft 1 is only 12 seconds long. So, our main priority is to film the rest of our scenes at the different locations in order to fill up the song with footage for both the performance and narrative.

I collected feedback through YouTube comments, video recordings of another media student and also a feedback sheet.

After watching our draft 1, one of my peers filled in the feedback sheet on the certain objectives of what we did well and what didn’t meet up to the best we could. Our shots are well composted and we use a variation of happy and sad emotion shots which illustrates the genre. However to improve we need use more varied shots and make them more clear to what is going on in them. As our draft 1 is quite short with the rest of our footage it should come together and make more sense to the audience, but this is where we needed to improve.

I collected feedback from another one of my fellow media students and got some constructive criticism.

Click on the video below to view our draft 1 feedback:

From this I learnt that we used a good variety of shots however it is too short.

Our targets for draft 2 are to make sure we make it longer. We include more footage and get in our performance shots and make sure that the rest of the narrative has been filmed and edited into the music video. During the re filming, make sure that we vary our shots and use a wider range.
