Star Image – theirs and mine

I created a prezi to analyse Green day and their star images, looking at:

  • Their music
  • Performances
  • Appearances
  • Articles
  • Social Media

All of these components create the star image, Richard Dyers theory of all stars are ordinary but extraordinary and all of these things are constructed to make them seem more ordinary or extraordinary.   But also how they are present in our lives through social media but also absent like interviews and concerts. All of these are created through the meta narrative using different media’s to create our stars image.

This has helped me discover why different stars, perform at different stadiums, to create a branding image (How they want to appear to their fans). This will help me create my star, I will now know that I need to think about what I want my star to come across like to my audience. I also highlighted all the adjectives describing the band in red throughout the Prezi, some of the words included:

  • Sad
  • Lonely
  • Passionate
  • Exciting
  • Mad
  • Raw
  • Normal
  • Relatable
  • Straight Forward
  • Down to Earth
  • Rebellious
  • Aggressive
  • Vulgar
  • Rude
  • Unique

I next created a slide of different style choices, using MES-EN-SCENE to construct the appearance of my star. I used my Pintrest board to help me with this, finding ideas and inspiring me.

I kept my styling similar to the styling of green day as this is a very popular punk rock band. I have chosen a black shirt, black ripped jeans, a leather jacket, either messy or spiked up hair, quite dark eye makeup, black and silver jewelry. For body language, when I take the pictures I will use all of them, so I am able to experiment with different images and decide which looks the best. This will help me and my star to know how I want them to dress and stand for the photo shoot, so that I create the public image of my star I want.
