Shoot 1 reflection

Our first shoot took place on 7/7/20 from 14:50 to 16:00.  During this shoot we managed to get a range of performance shots. We got some solo singing and instrument playing as well as some full band shots. We got some close up, mid shot, long shot, some high angles and some low angles. Here are some positives from the shoot:

  • Good band shots
  • Wide range of shots
  • Good performance

Here are some negatives from the shoot:

  • Poor lighting in shots
  • Mise en scene was poor
  • Some shots were not usable

I think some shots could be used in the final music video but I think some shots will not end up being used because of poor lighting or just being a poor shot in general.

Production meeting for shoot 1

This is my groups production meeting agenda. This plan allows my group and our teacher to get an idea of what specific things we will be doing on our first shoot. In this production meeting agenda we discussed the date and time of our shoot and where we will be shooting, and we also said who were our models and who would be with us during the shoot. It also covered what props and what costumes we would bring and who would bring them. Finally we discussed what we need to keep in mind and remember when shooting and also at the bottom we put some contact information if anyone needs to get hold of us.

Risk assessment

This is my teams risk assessment for our first shoot. Risk assessments are important for a number of reasons. firstly they allow all members of the group to discuss the risks involved with shooting in certain location. It also allows our teachers to know what we are doing and where we will be and at what time. So in the unlikely occasion when something bad may happen then all the necessary steps have been taken to unsure everything is resolved and everyone is fine.

Star Image

This is our document that symbolises what we think our star would represent.

Firstly there are two obvious sides to this document. One is the skater and wilder more outdoorsy side of our star, but there is also another side to our star performer which is still rebellious and wild but is the scruffy suit look. As I said before both side of our star are rebellious and wild but there is two different yet slightly similar styles. This theme extends to the images of props we have chosen, the wild band members can play instruments but chose to show their style with make shift DIY instruments.

Visual shot list

This is my groups visual shot list, which we will use as inspiration and a tool to create a wide range of shots and angles for our shoots.

We chose these shots firstly because they will provide a good list of interesting angles that we think can really make the difference in our music video.

More specifically we chose the mid and close up shots as a way to create shots that allow the audience to clearly see what the performer is doing or saying. Also we chose the extreme close ups as a way to have either highly detailed performance shots or cinematic narrative in the music video.

High and low angle shots again will mainly be for the performance and will be fairly close up to capture the lip syncing and instrument playing.

Long and extreme long shot will mostly be for the narrative and again we will try to use these shots to create some cinematic narrative in low points and  instrumental parts of the song.

Overall I think we created a good list of useful shots that will really help us create some interesting and great looking footage.

Permission from artist

This is a screenshot if me and my group reaching out to the band Siames in the hope that they would not say no. The reason for asking permission is to not infringe on copyright and also as a polite gesture to the artists.

They have yet to respond but because they haven’t said no we will continue to use the song ‘No lullaby’ in our project.

Pitch + feedback

This is the video pitch that we did with our teacher

From our pitch I have 6 positives and 6 negatives.

Firstly the positives are:

  • We had a good theme to go with
  • We had some nice ideas
  • Creative and unique thoughts
  • Good points for narrative
  • Locations were well thought out

The negatives are:

  • some of our ideas are vague
  • Some of our theme needs some more thought
  • Our performance ideas need work
  • Mise en scene in general needs more thought
  • Lighting needs a rethink
  • costume needs to change

In the pitch we want to use quiet outside spaces and we have a forest and forts around where we live as some ideas. When it comes to costume and overall mise en scene, we only really have ‘casual’ clothing as what we want to do, and I think that when we think about it further we need to say exact pieces such as jeans, hoodie and hoodie.

Overall I think me and my group have got some good ideas and thoughts on mise en scene, location, theme and narrative but are lacking some more in depth ideas and also we need to give some thought on how our ideas will work when we shoot for real. Some of our points just need some refining but others might need a complete rethink.

Describe our audience

This is my groups audience mood board and we think this represents the audience that would enjoy the song and music video that we will create.  We wanted this mood board to portray a fan base that is made up of young people that enjoy the outdoors and exploring, even if they become wild or rebellious.  An overview of this mood board in words would be:

  • rebellious
  • skater
  • outsider
  • social
  • anti – system
  • youth/ troubled youth
  • wild

I think that  images of graffiti, abandoned places and scruffy clothing, show off the audience we are trying to reach.

Theorists that helped me and my group describe our audience is Blumler and katz.  They say that an audience only wants to consume media for these reasons:

  • Information and education
  • Entertainment
  • Personal identity
  • Integration and social interaction
  • Escapism

I think that the audience that we are attracting are the ones that use the media for escapism, personal identity and social interaction.
