Initial song ideas for a video

The song I have chosen to pitch is ‘First Day of my Life’ by Bright Eyes. I chose this song because I really like the stripped back, acoustic style because it has the ability to make the audience feel happy. The song also has a raw and emotional meaning to it as it is about people falling in love with the right person: “I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you”.

Lyrics:

This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed
They’re spreading blankets on the beach
Your’s is the first face that I saw
I think I was blind before I met you
Now I don’t know where I am
Don’t know where I’ve been
But I know where I want to go
And so I thought I’d let you know
That these things take forever
I especially am slow
But I realized that I need you
And I wondered if I could come home
Remember the time you drove all night
Just to meet me in the morning
And I thought it was strange
You said everything changed
You felt as if you’d just woke up
And you said, “This is the first day of my life
I’m glad I didn’t die before I met you
But, now I don’t care, I could go anywhere with you
And I’d probably be happy”
So if you wanna be with me
With these things there’s no telling
We’ll just have to wait and see
But I’d rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win the lottery
Besides, maybe this time it’s different
I mean I really think you like me, me, me, me

Here is a word cloud I have made associated with the song:

Narrative:

The narrative follows a couple who are obviously madly in love but in the early stages of a relationship. We see them disagree about something which later flicks to them being alone, thinking about the argument, replaying the situation in their heads. The narrative ends with the boy leaving his house with a bunch of flowers, leaving the audience wonder where he’s going with them and who he’s giving them to.

Description of Performance:

The performance will have shots of the couple together and alone, of the boy performing the song to the girl and there will be some moments of dancing to illustrate how madly in love they both are but also showing how alone the boy was without the girl: she is his soulmate. It will have a 60% narrative, 40% performance ratio because I want to really show the story of my video whilst showcasing and advertising the artist.

Losing my love – Verzache

Wild – Joey Contreras

this is what anxiety feels like – Clinton Kane
