The camera talks

I can create a narrative by using camera angles.

Today we went out with a partner and a camera and had to use a range of camera angle and shots in order to denotate a narrative to the viewer. This was done by using a range of angles such as High shots, low shots, mid shots, long shots, close ups and extreme close ups. We had to create the story by using DISTANCE, ANGLE, FRAMING AND COMPOSITION in order to denotate a narrative to which allows the reader to create and image and idea from the piece

This helps us hone our skills in using different angles and with using models.

We have learnt that different camera angles produce different feelings to the reader. For example a low shot looking up creates a sense of power as you are looking up at whatever is in the picture it makes you feel small and powerless. However, if you were to use a high shot it would create the opposite and make you feel powerful and whatever is in the picture small and powerless

Different length of shot also produce different feelings. For example, a long shot of a singular person will create a sense of loneliness as there is only one person in the wide space. But if the long shot is full of people it creates a sort of hectic city vibe as there are so many people all doing different things.  Close ups create a more personal and in depth view of the person of focus of the photo. this can be used to show minor detail and to convey emotion via facial expression. Mid shots where the person is shot from just below the shoulders up. This can show all the facial features and also the surrounding environment and body language of the subject.

The knowledge of thees different angles and the feelings they convey will help me in my magazine as I will know what angles to use in order to show the emotion I am trying to create.
