So… How is it going?

New Transferable skills are the skills you learn as you progress through education, employment or training.

Transferable skills that I have learnt:

  • Time Management- Being able to book a slot and take all the pictures I needed for my magazine, kept on top of my blog and kept up to date with my magazine design.
  • Leadership- I have had to be in charge when being the photographer and had to tell my model what I wanted them to do, I also had to tell them what to wear.
  • Communication- I had to talk to new people to discus when they were free to be apart of my magazine.
  • Research- I also had to research the genre of my magazine to know what the main colours used in other pop magazines are.

What Went Well:

In general I think my magazine has gone really well but here are a few things that have really worked well:

  • My use of the main colours in the pop genre ‘pop’.
  • My design has been constantly improving over the weeks of my production.
  • My camera techniques have also been improving and I have taken some of my best pictures during these weeks.

Even Better If:

However, I still can improve:

  • By getting more feedback from my peers
  • Maybe use another main colour instead of blue
  • Use a picture that doesn’t involve Seanna.

Design Skills 2

Below are some simple tools that I have used on indesign when creating my magazine.  These tools allowed me to create boxes, shapes and draws lines:

I have also learnt how to change the way a photo or text stands out by using these tools:

These tools add a more professional look to the image that I applied them to and made them stand out more.  You can change the gradients of the image or text selected to give it a cool, pop look which was useful for me because of my genre.

WWW:

I managed to create all my pages to a suitable standard using a lot of the tools to give them all the best look that they could have.

EBI:

The spacing between some of the writing was all accurate and if i used a different net colour to blue for the background.

Design Skills 1

Throughout the production of my magazine I used Indesign and photoshop. This was useful in making my picture look the best it can and then designing my magazine in my own creative way, to add something extra so my magazine.

New skills I learnt:

  • Make text stand out more
  • Remove spots or imperfections
  • sharpen areas in my picture
  • Make eyes and teeth whiter

These two icons above are the two main tools that I used in my production.  First is the healing tool- this tool removes imperfections.  The second tool is the sharpen tool- this tool sharpens wherever you select to make the image stand out more.  These tool are used to help convey the pop genre because they create an image inside the audience’s mind of what pop is all about.  The star image being created is a popular and cool image- this is seen in the font, because of how the font stands out from everything else.

–This tool is a tool that I used a lot on indesign.  This tool can create effects on selected object to create a better looking object or could completely change the gradient of the object.  For me and my genre (pop) this tool can help the text stand out and create a cool, bright, gradient image.

So… I am ready to photograph my star.

L.P (Let’s Play)  is a magazine that is aimed to sell and inspire all kinds of  singers.  The magazine is based on the genre pop, with this genre we feel that the magazine would reach a wider range of audience that will enjoy our magazine because the pop genre is so popular.

What have I learnt about the camera:

  • shutter speed
  • aperture
  • framing
  • distance
  • shot type
  • angle

What have I learnt about mise-en-scene:

  • costume
  • lighting
  • acting and proxemics
  • make-up and hair
  • props
  • setting

By using the terms I know I will be able to communicate my message to my audience because mise-en-scene and what I have learnt for a camera will help me make the best magazine possible and it will help convey my mission statement.  I also understand I need to encode my design so then the audience can then decode it and interpret it how they want to.  I want the star image to come across as popular but humble and thankful for all the fame.

So… I’m ready to make some media!

When making my own magazine cover I will need to think about:

  • Audience
  • Costume
  • Lighting
  • Fonts
  • Colours
  • Genre

I will also use all my camera knowledge:

  • Close up
  • long shot
  • Mid shot
  • High angle
  • Low angle

All of this will help me create my magazine cover because I will know how to make my magazine cover look the best it can will all of my knowledge.  MES will also help me when creating my own magazine cover because I will consider the following:

  • The lighting
  • Colours
  • Fonts
  • Images
  • Gestures
  • Body language

So… How can an image communicate meaning?

There are many things you need to consider when creating an image (MES)

  • Costume
  • Lighting
  • Audience
  • Makeup
  • Props
  • Setting

These are in very important factors of mes-en-scene in portraying the intended narrative in media.  The costume for example, will help the audience understand which specific year it is in the image.

Camera shots and angles are very important when deciding which theme and image you are wanting to create:

  • XLS– extra long shot
  • LS– long shot
  • MLS– medium long shot
  • MS– medium shot
  • MCU– medium close up
  • CU– close up
  • XCU– extra close up

A low camera angle maybe represent to the audience different sizes which also could represent that the object is powerful, low angles look up so it could be a smaller person looking up at a better person who has power over them.  A high camera angle could represent power over the object in the image.  A close up shot could show fear in the persons eyes/face in a lot of detail, close ups can also show reflections of items of someone’s face (glasses) which could have a deeper meaning in the future.  A long shot can show somebody and their surrounding environment.

By knowing all of this it will help me with my final design because I will know when to take what image and what shot.
