Design skills 1

When creating my front page I have learnt new skills using in-design and Photoshop, also with a camera. For example….

whilst photographing my model i recognized how important it is to acknowledge the angle of the camera, for example the camera reiterates the message of the model by the positioning of it and how the model looks. It is also really important to ensure your model is positioned properly in the lens. It is also really important to remember to focus your lens on your model otherwise it will effect the whole resulting image.

After taking the image I used Photoshop to help me edit the image such as, cutting tool, move and selection tool, feather tool and the colour replacement tool. This helped me change the colour of hair strands to help blend or colour correct my models skin or impurities on the clothing etc. I also used the healing tool to help clear the blemishes on the image.

In addition to Photoshop I used in-design, In-design helped me choose the most appropriate masthead, I also used another toll which added a shadow affect on my text. I also used a smoothing tool which helped blend out my image into the background image.

Using these apps and the tools that they have to offer really helped me have the results on my image that I hoped for.

So… I am ready to photograph my star.

Brand Value– The brand value for ‘JUICY’ is to portray style and be a reliable brand which expresses the talent and new music of young artists.

Mission statement-  Juicy’s mission is to provide a stylish and a reliable magazine for our audience. In this magazine we will add interest and new updates on the latest topics that will be a desire for the R&B genre readers.

Camera and mise-en-scene-

  • Setting
  • Lighting
  • Props
  • Acting
  • Make-up and hair
  • Costume

We will make sure that the mise en scene relates to the genre and I will make sure it is planned out and it suits the topic.

Camera-

  • Apperture
  • Shutter speed
  • Distance
  • Framing
  • Shot type
  • Angle

When I am taking photos of my models I will make sure that I capture the image at a correct angle to portray the correct impression of my genre. My model must convey style and interest. I want my model to engage in the expectation so I will convey her to look stylish.

So… How can an image communicate meaning?

There are many to ways in which a image can communicate meaning. Some of the main reasons include Mise-en-scene and camera framing. Mise-en-scene helps convey peoples groups, events and places through

  • Costume
  • Lighting
  • Acting and Proxemics
  • Make-up and hair
  • Props
  • Setting

All the above help create the meaning of the image, for example if you are portraying someone to be happy you will use the mise-en-scene to create that certain feeling. In my magazine I will closely analyse my audience to ensure I portray the right interest for them. Camera framing is also really important as it helps show the image in a certain way for example a low angle shot conveys the model to be powerful and important as the camera faces up on her/him, another would be low high angle shot and that conveys the model to be powerless and not important as the camera faces down on the model. When taking these shots you really need to make sure you concentrate on the angle of the image you are taking as if the image isn’t related to your audience it will confuse them. I will need to take into account of my mise-en-scene and my camera framing to ensue I don’t confuse my audience instead I engage them.

So… I’m ready to makes some media!

when I begin to make some media I need to take into account various things such as, my target audience and the demographics. I must ensure my magazine appeals to them and their interests.

I also need to ensure when creating my magazine that I use the MES method. I need to make sure that Mise En Scene is found in my R&B genre. In addition I need to include a good colour scheme into my magazine and focus on the basic colours that magazines like mine generally use to engage my target audience.

when creating my magazine I need to include Blumler and Katz theory for example..

  • Entertainment
  • Info and Education
  • Personal identity
  • Escapism
  • Social attraction

all these key things are what brings my magazine together and makes it a appealing and a interesting design of media for my target audience to read.

I will also need to add AIDA this is..

  • Attract audience
  • Engage interests
  • Create desire
  • Call to action

when creating my magazine I will add all these important aspects to ensure I engage my reader and provide them what they are looking for in my R&B magazine.

so… hello media studies

Throughout my media studies lessons I wish to learn more in technology and how it’s used in the media I use on a day to day bases. I personally really like music videos and recognizing the different stories behind them. I also really enjoy using social media to take photos, i hope to explore more into that and learn how to take photos on a secondary professional level. In addition I also want to learn about how to create a magazine front cover as i’m interested in the creative photography, colour and design. Lastly I wish to explore more in detail the different aspects of media such as music, movie and magazine design.

I generally base my media on Instagram, snapchat, pinterest etc.. However I use them to socialise with my friends as whole, i don’t particularly use them to be creative and imaginative and that’s something i’m really interested in. I also use media to take photos and upload them on various apps. I use media to listen to music also.

I believe media studies will help me learn various skills for the future for example, team work.. we have to do a lot of working together in groups to expand our knowledge and information about a certain topic, media will also help me learn independently.
