super hero analysis

Batman in the dark night subverts the classic hero archetypes by being dark and depressing compared to other joyful contenders, he also doesn’t  follow the same rules that other characters might follow for instance on multiple occasions during the dark night batman tortures people and intentionally breaks bones etc to villains rather than what most hero would do witch wouldn’t be torture and would not be as brutal. Also the majority of super hero,s have super powers or abilities, batman has none of this he is simply a a kid with a bunch of money.

batman context and critical reception

A commonly held idea about the dark night is that is that its meant to reflect a bush america, eg post 9/11 and the war on terror. For instance we have been presented with a villain that isn’t afraid of death and that doesnt want money or power but only to cause chaos, much like the terrorists that committed the 9/11 atrocities .

after 9/11 the patriot act was brought  in this was used to tap phones look at online data ect, batman does something drastically similar with Lucius Fox, where in he hacks hundreds if not thousands of mobile phones and uses it like sonar to see through walls, like the american government batman hacked the general public’s phones because he felt it necessary.

extraordinary rendition is something the american government did so to prosecute terrorists,  it is the act of taking someone out of there country into another so to punish them and was used fairly regularly during the war on terror  and batman does it in the dark night. when one of the gangsters flees to Hong Kong batman essentially kidnaps him and brigns him back to america so that he can be prosecuted by an american jury.

The Americans where also on multiple occasions accused of torturing prisoners and suspected terrorists in an effort to get them to talk batman uses a similar technique when trying to interrogate the joker.

batman genra analysis

Batman as a film follows a lot of the common superhero archetypes but also strays away from allot  making it quite an interesting comic book movie for instance

similarities .

.Both batman and a generic comic book movie feature a classic love interest for instance in this film the love interest is Rachel .

.Batman also has the classic dichotomy of good vs evil or batman vs the joker .

.Batman is classically a superhero in allot of ways for instance hes good looking and highly skilled with ”gadgets” used for his own gain .

differences

.Unlike a  stranded super hero movie instead of getting the girl in the end  Rachel infact dies.

.The villain in this piece doesn’t want anything, the joker just wants chaos he doesn’t crave money or power just chaos.

.Batman is hated by the public unlike spider man or iron man who are idolized by the general public batman is feard and hated
