My Work in Progress

Looking at these drafts I can see that I need to work on my slogan font type on my front page as well as the quote I actually want to use, as well as this looking at my contents page im not quite happy with the white space and colour of the main body of font as it isn’t as easy to read over top of the draker shaped in my background. Despite this looking at my double page spread i am happy with how it looks and the lay out, I feel that out of the three this one is closest to being finished, I think i just need to review my article and adjust its positioning abit  to wrap around the image on the left.

Draft 1 – The Front Page

Above I have put in my first draft for the cover of my magazine. I have chosen bold font for my masthead and a striking medium close up of my star cut out in Photoshop and placed centrally with a complimenting blue background. I feel that this needs a lot of work but I am confident that I can expand my skills in editing programs to improve this and improve the quality to aim for a professional looking end result.

TARGETS:

  • Re-edit around my star, to achieve a smoother edge. especially around the hair.
  • Involve details such as a bar code, date, pull quote, pus and plugs.
  • Improve brightness and color quality of my star image.

WHAT WENT WELL:

  • I am happy with my chosen masthead font.
  • I will stick with the image I have chosen from my first photo shoot.
  • Pleased with the mise-en-scene and colors I have chosen.

I will refer back to these targets in my drafts to come so I can see my progress and learn about what works and what doesn’t for the front cover of my magazine.

Draft 3 – The Double Page Spread

Looking at my first draft of my double page spread I can see:

WHAT WENT WELL:

  •  I enjoy the color scheme I have chosen as I feel is looks fresh and can appeal to the younger people in my audience. It looks more modern which adds a twist to my magazine.
  •  I like that I have used a border as i feel it frames the page well and draws attention to the images and body text.
  •  I have again used my masthead font to title the page and create a running theme.

TARGETS:

  •  I am unhappy with the shade of the green I have used, I feel it is to dark and needs to be changed.
  •  Wrap the text around the images, to help the layout flow and look cleaner.
  • Involve a pull quote on the right hand side.

A New and Improved Contents Page

Reflecting on all my targets, peer and teacher feedback I have reached a draft which I feel i am very content with. I have looked aback and edited to suit feedback to do with layout, font and  font color I have put in a dark complimenting band to help the title of this page stand out, using my masthead font to continue the theme and not have it feel too busy considering the intensity of the background. I have used my editing skills to wrap the text around the image I have chosen. i still feel that it appears too dark overall and doesnt look as profession so this needs to be edited to acknowledge that.

TARGETS:

  •  Play with the opacity of the colors in the background.
  • remove dark shadows from the image
  • Change the color of the body text as it clashes with the dark center color of the background.
