In this task I have used the following camera techniques: shot reverse shot, establishing shots and reaction shots. I used these techniques in order to give a sense of what is going on. For example having a shot reverse shot of the two actors helps to illustrate the frustration and anger she feels towards him for lying about how ‘great’ the present really is, this is emphasised by having a fast cutting speed as it only highlights her irritation. I have also used an establishing shot in order to give the viewer a sense of what is going on. Although there are a few reaction shots/ close ups I feel the work would only have been improved had there been more, as it would have shown what the two characters felt towards one another at any precise moment. For example there could have been a close-up of his face showing how discontent he is with the present.
Also in this task I have learnt the importance of following the rules of continuity such as the 180 degree rule and match on action. Without using the 180 degree rule (ensures the camera stays the same side of the conversation the whole time) your video will lose its continuity and cut to a scene that does not fit.Whilst filming we did accidentally brea the 180 degree rule when she walks out of the classroom and it cuts to her throwing her jumper into the locker. This deteriorated the overall quality of out work. However in an attempt to fix this we flipped the footage so the video runs more smoothly.
Match on action is also very important when it comes to making sure your video flows smoothly. Match on action is when the video cuts from the first shot to another view that matches the first shot. We have used this when she storms out of the room; the first shot shows a close up of her reaching for the door handle ready to storm out, then this cuts to her slamming it from another view.
I have learnt how to use the following tools in premiere pro: rendering the video, cutting the video and how to flip the video. One of the most important tools I used was the cutting tool as it enabled be to cut the video up and adding different shots rather than the entire video being shown from one angle. However, constantly cutting up each piece of footage would make the process overly time consuming, so this was bad easier by being able to crop each video before adding it in. This task has also given me a basic overview of the effects the software offer such as flipping the video. Finally another important tool I have learnt about is the rendering tool. The rendering tool helped improve the flow of the video and made it not appear as jumpy.
If I was to do this project again my main priority would be to collect as much footage as I possibly could, this is due to not having enough reaction shots. The task has highlighted the importance for having as much footage as you can.
