Audience Profiling

We were set on a task to annotate a front cover of a music magazine, and get statistics on the different types of people who read the magazine. This will be important when producing research for my music magazine as it will give me a rough idea as to what I need to think about when producing my music magazine. The genre of music selected was Classical Music. In my opinion the music magazine selected does match up to its demographics. Classical Music is most popular with Baby Boomers which is ranging if you were born between 1944 and 1964.

Typically the main target audience of Classical Music are:

  • Settled Elders
  • Main Streamers
  • Home Soldiers
  • Aspires
  • Wealthy
  • Upper Middle Class
  • Not as common in the younger generation

This style of music is clearly the most popular with the socio-economic group Baby Boomers. The community takes up the majority of Classical Music listeners. Some of the most popular musicians/composers are Mozart, Eldbjorg Hemsing to name a few.

When creating my own music magazine I will need to ensure prior to the production stages what age group I would like my magazine to attract. Once I have selected the age group I will then look at the different types of interests around the age range, therefore I will have a better understand of my audience’s likes and dislikes, and by knowing my audience it will ensure my magazine to sell.
