Favourite Music Video from Former Student

Here is my favourite music video from a former A level Media student:

I like this video because of the story line and how the song goes along with the narrative, the MeS is very dark and inspired by Billie Eilish. The story is about a girl who feels as if she ontop of the world, like a queen. For insistence the talks about everyone around her being in “silence” and her being able to have the ability to “make them bow”, What made it such a good music video was the amount of detail that was shown, the star was able to confidently deliver an amazing endeavor of Billie Eilish’s hit. The Mise – en – Scene was brilliant, the costuming was dark and in the style of Eilish, the lighting used was lowkey lighting for the majority of the video, in addition to that the acting shown on the video was completely brilliant. I loved how the makeup and hair were kept very minimal and simple, this allowed the star to been highlighted for her costuming and acting not just her makeup. The main settings used were either the underground hospital or at a mansion. One prop that stood out to me in particular was the crown that was constantly featured throughout the duration of the video, I like how it wasn’t over used but the crown appeared when it was right.

Another thing that made this video stand out from the rest is the technical conventions used such as lip syncing, not only that but the star knew the song very well which made the music video more realistic, they ensured that the editing and lip syncing was to the beat.

The narrative to performance ratio was 40:60, which amplifies the narrative and the lyrics. Additionally, the video has been styled in a dark and creepy way, this is typical of Billie Eilish’s music. The video focuses on the dark clothing and the crown to create a story alongside the location. It deems the stars appear powerful and confident.

Furthermore, the star’s image has been conveyed as extraordinary due to the talent and skills at lip syncing and acting. It tells us as an audience that she is very comfortable with behind in front of the camera. The setting shot in the underground hospital is very much the house style that the artist represents, although it has a lot of history, it portrays the image of been dark, damp and creepy.
