Star Image – The Performer

Below is a Canva to represent how Catfish and the Bottlemen are represented in the media:

Catfish and the Bottlemen are represented as:

  • An up-and-coming band
  • Youthful
  • Interactive
  • Successful
  • Performers
  • Active

They are presented in the media as both ordinary and extraordinary stars, different images suggest different things. Richard Dyer called this the paradox of the star, suggesting that not only are they a regular person, but also a god-like performer. For example, you can see them performing in front of a large crowd, meanwhile when stood as a group of four they just look like ordinary people.

The band are constantly keeping their fans on their toes because of the way that they involve their fanbase, for example posting online polls. This engages the audience to the band, and makes the band seem like more ordinary people.

With the information gathered, I can see that Catfish and the Bottlemen are represented as a the youthful, interactive group. This means that when filming/planning our music video we should take this into consideration.

This was an important task to complete because I was able to understand how Catfish and the Bottlemen are represented in the media. This meant that when shooting my music video I know how to represent my performers. I also learned a little more about the paradox of the star and how it can be used to show different sides of a star.
