This was my first draft for the article:

My teacher set me some targets for how I could improve my article. She asked me questions that I had not answered to give my answers a bit more detail, one of the questions she asked was “Why wouldn’t someone challenge the racism that is going on in the world?” I then expanded my answer in that question. She also told me I was using some words too many times or the words were boring and I should think of some synonyms to change them to make the article a bit more interesting, some of the words were ‘good’, ‘with’ and another one was ‘faces’. After reading through my targets I have produced my second draft which you can read down below.

Language Analysis

In this task I had to analyse an article from a magazine, I chose this article to see what professional properties but also what I would say would make it better. Some other things that I think are important to think about are:

  • Up to date information
  • Fashion ideas / new looks
  • Gaining an insight into stars’ lives and personalities
  • A reflection of their own values, attitudes and beliefs

These were the options from the sample articles that we had to choose from :

  • Biography
  • Intro to a long read
  • 10 Tips for Life
  • Q&A
  • New Band
  • Album Reviews
  • Interview

Cash For Questions is the article I am analyzing, This was released on 11th July in 2017, the band they were focusing on was ALT-J. This article was written by Paul Stokes and the photography included was taken by Adam Lawrence. The structure of this article is set out as a Q&A, this is clear to see as they have made the questions in bold then have the answers below with the person who is speaking in bold. In they introduction they talk about them in the third person as well as in the questions but when they have the answers to the questions they talk in first person. This impacts the reader because it gives them new knowledge that they haven’t heard before. There is a clear introduction to the article however they don’t a conclusion which would be something that they would need to add.

The interviewer shows the band easy going and pleasant, this may impact the reader by looking at the band differently and liking them more if they think they’re more relatable.

A New Improved Front Page

For this task I had to make improvements from my first draft of my music magazine front cover. I looked at my peer assessment to see what other people thought would look better.

These are the things I have done to change. First of all I thought I would look for different background colours because the old one did not really suit my front cover, I thought this light blue looks better behind my model and blends well with the yellow. Another thing they thought I needed to do was fill up the page a bit more, I decided I’d include a plug to make the reader a bit more interested in the magazine, in the plug I put “GET READY FOR 2020, WE ARE.” I thought this would keep the reader excited for future magazines and this would make them wanna get more of our magazines. Another point to add on to make it better is that I could move the cover lines away from the face of my front cover model.

Draft of Front Page

Please click on the image to see it more clearly

In this task I designed a front cover for my first draft magazine. This is the feedback I got back for it.

  • One of my favorite parts of the front cover is how he over lapped the letters for the Masthead of his front cover because I think it stands out on the page.
  • Another part I like is the cover line (Top Rappers Of 2019) and he faded the top and bottom word behind the two middle words.
  • The targets for his next draft would be to make it a bit brighter and exciting fill up the empty spaces. The background colour does not really fit and looks a bit dull.

I have taken this information in and will work on my model next draft.

What I like about my magazine is how I have laid out my Masthead and my cover line, I like the faded effect on my cover line. I think I need to change the colour of the name of my artist as it could be quite hard for some people to see.

Contact Sheet First Shoot

In this task I had to put together two contact sheets from my photo shoot for my music magazine front cover. I really the photo IMG 946 because in that photo he has a very open expression opening up his zip up jumper. He is also looking down to the floor away from the camera in a way of showing himself off. It looks like he is trying to show off his clothing and acting confident.
