Prelim task mood montage

The theme we got for our montage was frantic/chaos. We planned this storyboard to organize how we what to shoot our montage and the variety of shots we would like to use.  For example at the beginning of our montage there is a cut to a close up to a stressed person in an exam, this will convey the theme of chaos as the close up at look on the persons face will convey the story and atmosphere of an exam that has not gone well.

Below is our final montage:

Strengths-

  • Good camera angles throughout
  • Filmed clips multiple times to make sure we had the right angles
  • Good facial expressions

Weaknesses-

  • Transition shots aren’t very smooth
  • Narrative isn’t the clearest
  • Lighting isn’t the best

Making this montage helped me to realise that the editing and making sure we can get the correct angles use the camera will be essential to convey the correct narrative for our music video.  I now know how I need to portray the star image using the right mise en scene, range of angles and editing skills. Overall I have learnt a lot when it comes to making my own music videos and I now know what works and what does not.

CCR2: How does your product engage with audiences and who would it be distributed as a real media text?

This is a Screencastify explaining how my product engages with audience and how it can be distribute as real media.

Chosen adverts

Advert 1

I chose this advert as I feel majority of my target audience would use headphones like this or be interested in reading the advertisement to invest in a pair of these headphones. A lot of my readers will often listen to music with headphones and this advert will help with a better understanding of what these certain headphones do. I think its important to include an advert with headphones in as it is a staple to listen to music with or a good investment once seeing this advertisement. This could encourage my target audience to look into Bose for some good quality headphones.

Advert 2

I chose this second advert to have more of a focus on my target audience music that they enjoy. I know that for my genre of pop a good deal of my audience appreciate Ariana Grade’s music and her talents, she is a well known artist and I feel this advert is a good way of drawing in my audience and it could give my audience a better understanding of the genre they are engaging in. It also includes other big artists that my audience know of who will be the opening acts and suits my demographic correctly.

2nd draft of DPS

Here is my second draft of my double page spread. I have added and changed things so my article catches my target audience and I have re read everything to make sure it all makes sense. After the feedback from my first draft I have changed things and hoping by my final draft I will have competed everything to achieve the target audience I’m after.

What’s new?

I didn’t change a lot for my double page spread as I only wanted to change minor details and parts I felt didn’t work and weren’t conventional. Below are a list of things I changed to create the right Mise En Scene:

  • I moved the heading of ‘rising above’ to the right side of the page, I felt this was better as I forgot when creating my first draft where the fold of the magazine would be.
  • I moved the Pull quote on the top left up a bit more so it over lapped the yellow box and felt a bit more joined onto the article, I also changed the font of this to match the font of the stand first.
  • I changed the font of the stand first to a more exiting on and made sure it matched onto the pull quote to tie the article together.
  • I changed the article font from a boring sans serfia to a easier to read font for my target audience.
  • I also added a lot of drop shadow to different boxes and some of the corners of the yellow boxes, by doing this it makes my article stand out and pop a bit more then it did.
  • I also added strike to certain writing like who the interview and photography was by so my audience new this wasn’t part of the article.
  • I added a little tease on the bottom right of the right page, this is to entice my audience to visit their Instagram and other medias to find out more gossip, I also added a little Instagram logo to make it more obvious.

What’s next?

I feel my double page spread has been improved within my second draft but I feel there are still things I can think about changing for my final draft.

  • I can add little bits of red or blue so my double page spread matches more with my contents and front page.
  • Could add another quote in a circle by the article photo.
  • Play and change the Instagram logo in the right bottom corner
  • Possibly look at another font for ‘Rising above’
  • Yellow shadow box on stand first to align with the top box
  • Look at how the inset is framed-bounded and add in the white curly wave frame
  • Gutter width between columns a bit too big now
  • Can bring the stand first down off the top line slightly
  • Number 1 on same line and No. 1 instead
  • Copy is very near the bleed and slug boundary at the bottom
