Digipak Draft 2

After evaluating our feedback we have created a second draft of our digipak. We have changed one of the covers after the feedback said it didn’t fit with the other covers as it didn’t follow the red colour scheme. We decided on a red leaf in water to symbolize her isolation and passion.

Below is the whole digipak:

Feedback and Targets on Draft 1

We have created a draft 1 of our digipak, we have now gone out and got feedback from this draft.

Summary of feedback:

  • Colour palette is clearly symbolic, however it should be the same red as her lips
  • Title curves round – positioning is good, however we should adapt colour around the words
  • Broken themes are effective and clear through the broken ‘K’
  • Broken instruments rebellious conventional of the genre, although the image would be more interesting  on a canted angle
  • The cracked mirror reflects the theme however is not very clear and doesn’t fit with the colour scheme
  • The back cover is subtle conveys themes of isolation, fonts are coherent
  • We need publisher logo on the spine

Evaluation of shoot

We went out on various shoots for our digipak as we wanted to make sure all the images fit well together and effectively conveyed the themes. Our first shoot was for our front cover which is the most vital as it is the first cover seen, for this reason it was important to display an image of the star. We decided that since the narrative of the music video focuses on her, she should be the image on the front cover. We organised to shoot with Emma during a shared morning independent study session. However on turning up to the shoot we realised Emma was not feeling well, although she was happy to continue in reflection I think the shoot would’ve been more effective if we’d reorganized the shoot.

Below are three of the images I think would be effective for the front cover of our digipak:

Graphic Designs/Illustration

For our digipak we need to decide which font to use for the band name and the album name. Influenced by one of paramores digipaks I liked the idea of using lyrics from the songs in the album. I adapted this to suggest we used these lyrics to spell the album name. I also liked the idea of using different sized letters to spell it out.

Below are some of the fonts we tested out on photoshop, we will evaluate these and then we’ll choose the fonts for the album title: Broken and band name: Paramore.

Contact Sheet

We have done photo shoots for our digipak and advert and I made a contact sheet containing all the photos we took. We went out on various shoots so that we have a collection of photos to choose between. Our most successful shots were of the broken instruments, the red leaf, a photo of Emma as a star and the doll on the road.

Risk Assessment

It is vital we have a risk assessment for every shoot that we do to make sure that us and our actors are safe. We have assessed the risks of the shoot for our digipak and have prepared for filming with these in mind to ensure maximum safety for Leonie, Emma and I.

Production Meeting Agenda

Before going out on our shoot for our digipak Leonie and I have created a production meeting Agenda to ensure we get all of the shots needed and we have everything with us that we need, this way our shoot is as efficient as possible. To keep with the star image only Emma will be needed as an actress for the shoot.

Feedback and Targets

After making our photo mock-up of our digipak we got feedback from our peers by showing them the mock-up and discussing the readings they got from it, we made this in a tally table for the questions we asked them. We now know what works and doesn’t work to get the preferred reading.

Here is a summary of the feedback:

  • The broken instruments fit with the genre and clearly revealed the broken themes
  • The cracks across the girls face were effective
  • The red colour palette used throughout the products appealed to them
  • It would be interesting to explore some more themes as well as brokenness
  • The symbolism of the doll was lost, we will make this clearer by designing it to resemble the star.

Photo Mock-up

We have found photos similar to what we aim to create with our digipak in order to create a photo mock-up. This will allow us to get feedback on the themes and the readings they gain, before we edit the actual product.

Our front cover of the digipak will be like this:

Our inside covers will look like this:
