New Performance Meeting Agenda and Storyboard

My group had to reshoot our performance as we were not happy with the result of our last shoot, however we liked the red costume we used within our shots therefore we stuck to this costume.  As yo will see in our Production Meeting Agenda here:

We knew what shots we had to collect in this shoot therefore we didn’t need many photos for our storyboard, it was also a short shoot and we would have run out of time with any more shots than we thought of on our storyboard. Here is a photo of our storyboard for our second performance shoot.

Feedback From Teacher

Here is some feedback from our teacher, our targets given were:

  • Start with a close up to connect the audience with the singer,
  • Edit the rose scene as he gives it twice, improve the match on action,
  • More CU’s of the rose to show the connection,
  • Hold the reaction shot for longer,
  • Cut to his reaction,
  • More reaction shots,
  • More CU’s to show connection and clarity,
  • POV of her swinging on the swing,
  • CU of Brooks hand pushing her on the swing,
  • MS/CU of the ‘classic kiss’ between the two characters,
  • Get rid of the long shot of Lucy dancing on the balcony,
  • Tracking shot of them walking through the flower pathway,
  • Walking towards the camera and transitioning through to the next shot,
  • When they fall have a handheld canted angle as though the camera is tumbling with them and the audience will then connect with them,
  • The continuity doesn’t work when they walk across the screen as they fell beforehand,
  • CU of the dog,
  • Cut to narrative when she’s not singing words, so when she sings ‘ooh’,
  • CU of him pushing Lucy away,
  • Make it more obvious that he has left her within the narrative,
  • Look into his eyes when she sings ‘when I look into his eyes’,
  • Make a more obvious link as the why she throws the jumper back at him, ensure the audience know it is his jumper,
  • More connection between the couple,
  • Tracking and Dolly of the picnic box and opening of packets etc,
  • Add another significant flower, so that there is 3,
  • Add more symbolism between the flowers,
  • At the end she could press the flower into the photo book and we can turn the page to show the pressed flower to show a running light motive throughout, that glues it all together,
  • Focus more on the idea of them breaking up,
  • Display clearly the deterioration of their relationship,
  • Make the story more obvious earlier on, before she’s started singing about it,
  • Running symbolism throughout of the picking of the petals, the classic, ‘he loves me, he loves not’, this can represent the classic symbol of a relationship being on then off.

Elements she liked were:

  • Our editing to the beat on ‘live it up, live it up, live it up, now baby’,
  • The smelling of the rose shot,
  • The amount of close ups,
  • Filmed well,
  • The lip sync,
  • Cut to CU and match on action of Brook’s hands on Lucy’s hips,
  • Shot of Lucy on the swing,
  • The close up of her crying and mascara down her face,
  • Mise-en-scene with the picnic box etc…,
  • The use of flowers within the narrative,
  • The clarity of our shots,
  • The performance shots.

Music Video Draft 2 Includes Narrative

This is Draft 2 of our music video which includes narrative and performance this time. As we’ve included narrative in this edit it has improved immensely,

Certain areas we found worked really well were:

  • Editing to the beat,
  • The mise-en-scene used within our narrative,
  • Our lip-sync,
  • Our location works really well within our genre.

Some targets we’ve given ourselves are:

  • We need to include more reactions,
  • More close-up to help with the match on action,
  • And continuity of the edit.

Audience Ideologies

For my audience ideologies I couldn’t find Sinead Harnett on YouGov.com, therefore I looked at similar artists within the Indie-Pop/R&B genre, such as Rita Ora, we included interests, demographics and political views. We would like our target audience to decode as we have a few hidden messages and symbols within our video and we hope this gives a preferred reading of our music video to our target audience, therefore we discovered what the common psychographics and demographics of our target audience, this may also help with social interaction as they will talk with friends about the symbols within the video. This is their profile below.

Here is my audience ideology of a girl I created, as I think she would be into our music and here are the type of things she is interested in. This helped me to discover that our targets audience were… Skilled working class and lower/ middle class and mainstreams and outgoing.

Shoot Evaluation (Narrative)

The narrative shoot we shot on Tuesday went very well.

As a group we went to my house and filmed around my garden which made it:

  • A unique location to shoot in which means no one else would have the same backgrounds.
  • Lucy and Brook worked really well together they were very co-operative throughout the shoot.
  • We also had a great pace and got all of our shots completed quickly, ensuring we could take more shots with different angles throughout the day.

A few targets we have given ourselves to develop our directing skills and cinematography skills are to:

  • Try and get more close up’s and more match on action’s.
  • Make sure all of our shots are in focus.
  • Ensure there is a variety of angles of each shot for each location
  • Retake the shot two or three times to ensure you have got that ‘perfect shot’

Giving ourselves targets enable us to make sure we achieve these when we shoot in the future.

Risk Assessment

Here is our risk assessment for our location shoot for our narrative. This is to prove that we understand the risks that we are taking when going out on our location shoot and we have shown how we will avoid and prevent any possible risks.

Narrative Storyboard

This is my storyboard for our location shoot of our narrative for our music video. Storyboards help me to figure out what shots I need to collect when filming on our location shoot, this also helps the editor in post production as to what order to edit the clips in we have gone into detail as to what type of shots we would like to achieve. A target we collected from this is that when looking at our narrative shoot footage we realised that it needs more close ups, we didn’t make enough room for loads of close up’s in our story board therefore left them out when recording and means we have to re shoot some shots as we left them out in the storyboard. We will have to upload more storyboards as we are re shooting therefore it will help us in our next shoot.

Narrative Development

We have decided to create an amplified narrative in which the video will not echo what she is singing but like closely and be inspired by the lyrics and our music video will be combination of anachronic narrative as it is filmed as flashbacks and intertwined with performance in which the performer is involved in the narrative as it is her memories. The equilibrium is disrupted during the middle as she has a flashback to them fighting however in the end, she decides she still wants to be with him, therefore our audience will be encouraged to sympathise with Lucy our main character as she is shown to be upset about the break up of her and her boyfriend.

The ending is a cliff hanger and we have decided to leave it up to the audience interpretation as to what happens, our idea is to show our two actors (Brook and Lucy) walking in the same place towards one another, we will do this through parallel editing, and then have the audience assume they’re going to meet however we will cut just before to leave the audience wondering if they met each other or not therefore making our audience want to watch the music video again to find hints of whether they met or not.
