Music Video Form & Conventions
The purpose of a music video is to sell the artist and their song. They are used to promote their music and albums and for them to make money and reach out to their audience. Music videos can come in two forms, a performance and a narrative. A performance is when the artist is just performing their song. A narrative contains little or no performance elements and is all based on story telling, like a short film. A combination is when the two styles are combined together to contain both narrative and performance. Music videos also contain many technical conventions such as lip syncing or editing to the beat. Lip syncing is when the artist is featured performing to the song as is lip syncing instead of singing live. Editing to the beat is when all of the edits and cuts are all edited so that they are in time or on the beat. Here is my analysis of 4 music videos that I watched.
