Favourite Music Video from Former Student

I looked at many pieces of work produced by former students. There were many things that I liked, and lots of videos that I liked the style and many elements of them. I chose this video as my favourite, as I really liked the style of the video and the editing behind it. I also think that it works really well with the chosen song.

What Works Well:

  • I really like the Mise En Scene in this video, as I think that they thought about it well. I also think that it works well with the song and reflects the narrative well.
  • I think that the make up works well as it reflects the narrative.
  • The setting conveys the narrative of the story and works well with the mise en scene.
  • I also like the way which it was edited, and the different speeds throughout the video, as this also works well with the genre and reflects the style.
  • The lip syncing was good and was edited well.
  • The music video is edited to the beat.
  • I like the use of props and the setting combined helps to demonstrate the narrative.
  • I like the angles of filming and the layering of clips.
  • I like the elements of dance that have been added in this video, there are few moments that tie in with the song.

What Doesn’t Work:

After having watched these music videos, I also learnt a lot of things about what works well and what doesn’t.

  • I think that their is a fine line with editing, you can either over edit or under edit, and you need to find the balance so that you do not overload it.
  • Dance is hard to use and if used needs to have a purpose.
  • Think about timings and don’t over estimate what you can achieve.

Reflection

After having looked at lots of videos that have been created by former students, I have learnt lots about what works well and what makes a successful music video. I have also learnt from mistakes that others have made as to what doesn’t work and what can be difficult. I can use this when thinking about my own music and coming up with ideas and plans.
