Test shoot

We went out and did a test shoot to make a music video coverage and how we want our star image – richard dyer to be represented through a variety of shots, to either convey her as extraordinary or ordinary, with different transitions, cut to close ups, editing to the beat and lip syncing. We also considered the paradox of the star. Although our test shoot wasn’t that good due to the location lack of angles and transitions it helped us to see how t0 perform the different camera angles, it also gave us a better idea of how it may turn out. After making this video although there was a lot of mistakes and the editing could have been better it allowed us to reflect on it and see what went well and what didnt look so good, so we were able to see the areas that needed improvements and more focus on such as the transitions.

Evaluation…

What went well – the positing of the star within the frame fit in with the rule of thirds within some aspects of the video.

Even better if – we had used more interesting angles, had a wider variety of transitions, include more filters and if we used more props.

Prelim Task Mood Montage

After separating ourselves into groups, we shared ideas of what we would do to create a montage, after this we wanted to create a plan so we presented our ideas onto a storyboard, we wrote down a variety of shots, how we were going to edit for narrative sense, convey the themes and cut to close up. We also talked about the atmosphere in which we take the clips in, for example the lighting and environment will be changed depending on the models mood.

After being given a theme we created a draft music video, to give us an idea of how to take clips, use different transitions and how to edit the video. The stars have been represented as unskilful, giving us the ideas they were failures to start with, towards the end of the video we were able to see that they were all determined and ended up being successful. Within our music video we used different camera angles and techniques such as pan, low vantage points and close ups. This video was all narrative based as it conveyed a story of people failing and then due to dedication and practice succeeding. At the start of the music video we turned down the saturation to create a dull effect, helping to convey the emotion of frustration: towards the end the saturation was higher as it helped to convey the happiness they felt after succeeding. We followed the success criteria which was to remember to remind your actors of any specific costumes they might need and you and your partner need to organise props, locations  around the school etc. From this we have learned how to edit the videos together as well as giving us a better understanding of how to use the camera to get better shots.

Strengths…

  • Have included transitions e.g. dissolve.
  • Some camera techniques used e.g. Pan, trolley, PED.
  • Included long shot, close ups etc.

Weaknesses…

  • No performance included.
  • Not a lot of MES EN SCENE in the sense of costumes.
  • Technical conventions e.g. editing to the beat and lip syncing.
