Final Social Media Page Draft

Below is our final draft of our Facebook page for our star Astrid May.

Astrid May – Facebook Page

Changes that we have made from our first draft include:

  • Adding in more relevant content e.g black lives matter links and posts about mental health
  • Adding in a collaboration with another brand e.g the body shop which further makes her relevant as she is collaborating with an environmentally friendly brand.
  • Added in hashtags e.g #Eclipse and #panicroom
  • Replied to some comments creating further engagement with the audience
  • Added in a teaser post for the album
  • Put in the full panic room video as our final post
  • Changed the order of posts slightly so that the teasers all make sense

After we uploaded our first draft, our teacher gave us some feedback in the form of a screencastify.

The feedback was mainly positive and there were many aspects that she liked including the gif and the video of the star speaking directly to the audience. However, of course, their are things to improve upon which included:

  • Adding something into the review and about section of her page
  • Responding to the comments
  • Linking to an Instagram or other sites
  • Linking to a site to buy her merch
  • Creating a tour poster
  • Putting the whole Panic Room music video in
  • Adding some product endorsements or collaborations
  • Adding comments to the #blackouttuesday post
  • Using more hashtags

Another interesting comment was that the header photo could be used on our digipak as we are struggling to perfect this product. I think that this is a great idea that we, as a group, will definitely take on board.

Self Assessment:

  • Design Coherence – We made sure that our social media page looked like a complete and coherent product as well as it looking like it fitted with the rest of our products e.g. the digipak. This was well achieved with the use of colour as we had a common colour palette of pink, blue and purple throughout all our products including our social media page.

  • Content – We posted a wide variety of content including photos, gifs and videos. The different types of media made the page interesting and exciting for the fans to engage with.

  • Timeline – We included many teaser posts before fully announcing the music video and album. An example of this was that we posted photos from the music video shoot to create a buzz with fans as well as closer to the time posting a teaser gif to once again create excitement.

  • Synergy – We included one particular post that demonstrated synergy. We posted an image teasing a collaboration with another artist with the caption “something big is happening soon.” This would have created a buzz within our artist’s fans community.

  • Cross Media Convergence – One post detailed our star going for an interview at Capital FM. This illustrates cross media convergence as she is promoting another form of media/marketing on her social media page.

  • Promotion of Live Events – We decided to not detail a live tour as we decided to stay current within the coronavirus pandemic. In saying this, we did post a video of our star announcing a livestream concert that would be going ahead due to the situation.

  • A Call to Action – We included many calls to action within our Facebook page. These included links to an actual website to buy the products on the merchandise announcement post and a Spotify link to listen to the actual song being promoted.

  • Ordinary/Extraordinary – Our social media page helps to give our star’s fans a sense of the ordinary aspect of her. This is demonstrated in many posts but most notably, in her video where she announces her livestream concert. She is presented very ordinarily in this post as she is sat in her room with a hoodie on and minimal makeup illustrating that she is no different to her fans.

  • Interaction/Engagement – Interaction is seen in the comment section of her posts as many of her fans have actively interacted with our artists posts. We could develop this further by having our star responding to comments to further her fan’s engagement.

  • Sell Physical Copies – In regards to buying physical products, we created a merch site which included products relating to our artist’s upcoming album. However, we have not linked anywhere to physically buy the album, only stream, so that is definitely something to improve upon.

  • Issues and Categories – While doing research, we found that our chosen star posts and comments frequently on current affairs and issues so putting this into our own social media page was very important to us. This being said, we included posts about the BLM movement, mental health and coronavirus in a bid to stay current and “woke.”

Audience interaction with a social media page – an analysis

Below is a screencastify analysing AU/RA’s Facebook page. By analysing her page we were able to get a good understanding of the conventions of a social media page in general, but also for a star of our chosen genre, electropop. This meant that when we went to create our own social media page we were able to encode the right messages for our audiences to correctly decode.

Social Media Page Terminology

Before embarking on creating our own Facebook page, I first looked at Billie Eilish’s page in order to get a grasp of the technical conventions of what a Facebook page for an artist within my genre looks like. I chose Billie Eilish as in my opinion she is most like our chosen artist, AU/RA.

From this task I learnt that their are many aspects and conventions that I would need to include within my page to make it a success. These include:

  • An about section
  • Tabs
  • Captions containing text, hashtags and links
  • Videos and gifs as well as photos
