Pans labyrinth fits the fantasy genre as it has elements of mystery. It also fits the genre because it included mythical creatures from the fantasy world. Ofelia is also having to complete 3 tasks in order to find her way to the kingdom.

However pan’s labyrinth also doesn’t fit the fantasy genre as it is often set in dark locations and often shows the brutality of war. The films iconography is also different as lots of guns are used which is because the film is also associated with war. This means that it doesn’t typically fit in the fantasy genre.  Fantasy films also often have a happy ending wheras in Pan’s Labyrinth Ofelia dies which is a tragedy.
