Preliminary Task

“A continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.

This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.”

Below you can see the finished continuity task of ‘The Exchange’.

  • I have used the following camera techniques; midshot, close up, long shot, pan.
  • I used these techniques to give the viewer the emotional reactions intended, and to create the action between the two actors.
  • I have learnt to use the following continuity editing rules; the 180 degree rule, match on action and shot reverse shot.
  • I used these rules to; create a continual realistic sequence of clips to create a plot, and to ensure no confusion of the characters proxemics.
  • I have learnt to use the following tools/techniques in Premiere Pro was marking  in, marking out, importing clips and exporting the final film.
  • I used these tools to give the video to create a conversation through the actors, both verbally and non verbally.
  • If I was to do this project again I would do some things differently; being some of the filming, where the item was passed across the table, speech was over the clip so we could not include the entire clip which would’ve linked it up better. Additionally some of the editing didn’t fit perfectly and I would’ve spent more time to correct this.
