A Front Cover Analyzed – Attracting ‘that’ audience

I analyzed the cover page of Music Week Magazine, I did this to explore how media language can be used to attract a target audience by representing ideas, events, characters, in order to achieve a “preferred reading”. I decoded technical design conventions, to see what they were trying to represent when encoding their work.  I found the implications that the magazine put in to attract both their audience demographic, and psychographic. An audience is often segmented into a variety of different demographics, so a producer can pinpoint what they need their work to connote to attract the correct audience. I found that the magazine inferred their magazine to be aimed towards their target audience of people interested in the business of the music industry.

By doing this, I now know how to shape my work around my target audience. Knowing this will enable me to enforce my genre into my music magazine, and apply my features accordingly by the demographics, and psychographics.
