Shoot 1 Reflection (PERFORMANCE)

Component 3, Music Video

As a result of our organisation prior the day of our shoot, we managed to achieve all the ‘money shots’ we aimed for, as well as play around with different types of shots. As a group, we collectively ensured we had all the essential equipment we needed before reaching our location, (camera, tripod, costumes and props) guaranteeing that there is minimal room for mistakes.

Our day went quite smoothly, we didn’t forget any equipment or costumes and our setup ended up reflecting our chosen music genre very well. Our shoot included me, Freya, Nila and Aoife. During our shoot at Saints Bay, we managed to record the song fully from a variety of angles, including the ‘money shots’ and other fun angles. After our shoot at Saints Bay, we all drove in Freya’s car to Forte George for our second location shoot.

WHAT WENT WELL:

  • We successfully managed to shoot a variety of different shots (long-shot, mid-shot, up close, pan, low angle, high angle etc.)
  • Every member of the group cooperated appropriately
  • Our star image’s acting and costume helped portray our chosen genre effectively
  • We used our time appropriately and effectively
  • We had various locations at Saints Bay that we used to bring an element of     excitement to our video, ensuring the audience don’t get bored
  • When arriving at the shoot location, every group member came prepared, making our day easier

IMPROVEMENTS TO BE MADE:

  • In a few of our shots, you can see one of our group members in the background
  • We should of used the tripod more as some shots are shaky due to the camera being hand held
  • When shooting our narrative performance, we want to use more props as very little were used in this shoot
  • The lighting in some shots was too bright, washing out our star performer and resulting in us not being able to see the star performers face
  • Although all ‘money shots’ were takin, we could of done with getting a wider variety of shots
  • Because of the location of our shoot, the wind was very strong causing the performers hair to cover her face

Focusing forward, as a group we will collectively use this feedback as constructive criticism, knowing what to avoid in our second shoot and what to improve on. As our narrative shoot is indoors, a lot of these improvements won’t apply to this shoot however, being aware of specific improvements that needs to be made shows understanding of the criteria for a successful music video.
