Timeline and marketing ideas

Component 3, Social Media Page

In order to produce a good marketing campaign with launch dates, sneak peaks, teasers and social interactions for the audience, a well thought out marketing timeline is needed in order to create excitement for the intended target audience, mathcing their personal identity building a strong brand face for my artist.

Each post it note has a date designated to when a post is going to be made on my social media page (Instagram), with information as to what is going to be posted, ensuring a variety of marketing strategies are used, for instance synergy. As a result of making a marketing timeline, my partner and I have a clear idea as to what needs to be worked on at what time, ensuring each post is to the best of our ability, including AIDA, our SMP needs to be attractive to our intended target audience, needs to catch our target audiences attention as well as interest.

Digipak Mockup

Component 3, Digipak

When creating a digipak, I need to ensure that my target audience are provided with their preferred readings, interpreting my chosen genre’s basic conventions as well as developing on them, thinking thoroughly about what repertoire of elements I am going to change in order to weave my personal ideas into my work successfully, giving my digipak a USP, making it stand out from others.

As shown above, my partner and I have illustrated a mock up of our intended digipak to give us an idea if it is conventionally possible to create. In order to see if our ideas would compliment our chosen genre, we have added denotations and connotations to the mock up, showing the significance of the included props, as well as what colour themes we’re going to follow.

Focusing forward, when it comes to our first digipak draft, we will review our original ideas, making alterations where needed to match our target audiences preferred reading as much as possible, as well as conveying the appropriate repertoire of elements.

Social Media Page Terminology

Component 3, Social Media Page

To demonstrate my understanding of the terminology used on social media, I have created a slide show of me analysing an artist in my chosen genre’s social media page (Facebook,Instagram and Twitter), conveying clear knowledge of the terminology and why it is important that they’re used.

From this task, I have learnt that artist and fan engagement is essential for the artist to promote their work, providing their target audience with their preferred reading, using market campaigning to raise awareness of their work.  Focusing forward, when I create my social media page I will use the terminology that applies correctly to my chosen genre/ social media page

The Look Book- the package

Component 3, Digipak

To ensure there is a coherent look throughout my digipak and social media page, me and my partner have analysed various posters and album covers that are part of our artists genre, providing our target audience with their preferred reading, ensuring they get what they are expecting, matching their preferred demo and psychographics.

Made with Padlet

Developing on this, by doing this task I have gathered a good idea of the blueprint/basic genre conventions that apply to my genre:

  • Bright colours/pastel colours
  • The star image on the front cover is never just a ‘basic’ photo, there’s either an object/ big accessories and/or layering of multiple photos into one.
  • With this particular genre, it is more about the star image rather than the title

Focusing forward, I will be referring to this post when it comes to creating my overall ‘package’ for inspiration, conveying the correct conventions for my genre with a personal twist to it, satisfying my target audience and providing them with their preferred reading.

Digipak Conventions Analysis

Component 3, Digipak

Attached below is a slideshow of my analysis of a CD cover and back cover (Tyler the Creator) to give me a rough idea as to what needs to be included to satisfy my target audience, as well as include all of the legal information. I added denotations and connotations to the images, analysing if the repertoire of elements have been used and if not, what other alternatives have been used.

By analysing this cover, it has given me an idea of all the conventions that have to be taken into consideration in order to portray the genre and artist to a well enough level that’ll satisfy the music industry and audience. When it comes to making my own, I will be referring to this blog post, comparing and contrasting what technical conventions are used in this genre and what needs to be included in mine.

Our Mission Statement- The package brand

Component 3, Digipak

To give us an idea of what we are going to include in our digipak and social media page, my partner and I created a slideshow, looking into similar artists to our chosen genre, gathering ideas as to what needs to be included (generic conventions, our products USP, other competition in the market, our audiences demographics and psychographics) to satisfy our target audience and minimise the text being rejected. Furthermore, each aspect of my brand needs to have continuity, using integrate advertising to promote my social media page, digipak and launch of my music video. We also created a mission statement, trying to sell our product as well as possible in a short number of words.

Focusing forward, I will bare this in mind as a guide to what will be included in my product, ensuring my work is the best to my ability and is well thought out.

Music Video 4 & Peer Feedback

Component 3, Music Video

Attached below is my draft four music video alongside feedback from one of my peers where I also gave feedback on her music video. We have peer marked other students music videos to not only gather feedback for ourselves, but to demonstrate we know what to look for/ what makes a music video good quality.

My partner’s feedback that she gathered from another student.

PEER FEEDBACK:

  • The performance compliments the narrative well
  • Shots are well framed and add meaning
  • Lip-syncing works well
  • Props/mise-en-scene in the performance works excellent

IMPROVEMENTS

  • The narrative only becomes clear towards the end of the video so maybe try and     add something to create a clearer connection with the audience
  • Maybe stabilise a few moving shots to add dimension

Focusing forward, I will use this feedback positively alongside my partners feedback to make the last few improvements on my music video, ensuring as many improvements have been made as possible.

Music Video 3 & Screencastify

Component 3, Music Video

Attached below is my draft three music video along side my teachers screencastify she did of our music video.

Attachment of my teachers feedback (screencastify).

Improvements to be made:

  • Swap the first two clips of Freya singing, start off with the close up
  • More screen time when putting the necklace on as it is an important part of the narrative
  • More screen time when getting the dress out of the wardrobe, feels a bit rushed
  • Have a close up of the model kissing the photo frame as the message isn’t clear enough
  • One of the clips is out of sync
  • The part scene feels a bit rushed, no need for the speed up
  • Have a close up of the model leaving the party, need to see more emotion to connect the audience

Focusing forward, now having feedback from our teacher we know what exactly needs to be improved. As a pair me and my partner have decided to re shoot several clips, ensuring we take into consideration these improvements that have been suggested.

Specsavers Feedback

Component 3, Music Video

During the process of making our music video, we have been lucky enough to have creative designers from Specsavers come in and have an over-look of our music videos, praising us and giving us constructive feedback on some improvements we could make.

Feedback from Specsavers:

  • Add in effects to make clips blend into each other/ensure music video runs smoothly
  • Add a filter/colour on top of certain clips to mask the ‘dodgy’ lighting
  • Re-shoot some close ups as there isn’t enough

Focusing forward, before our final draft me and my partner will take this feedback into consideration, ensuring we act upon these improvements.

Music Video Draft 2

Component 3, Music Video

Below is my draft two music video. When it comes to the editing aspect of our music video, as a group we have collectively decided to split into two pairs; Freya and Aoife, Me and Nila. As this is only a draft, there are plenty of improvements waiting to be made for future drafts.

When editing draft two, me and Nila discovered that she is stronger when it comes to editing the narrative and I am skilful when editing lip syncing which ensures we are both participating a significant amount when editing the music video.

WWW

  • We got a wide variety of footage for our narrative sequence
  • Our song choice helped convey our narrative sequence
  • Elements of mise-en-scene helped amplify our story line

EBI

  • We need to add effects/change the lighting of some cuts
  • We could do with re-shooting some cuts as the footage/camera angle isn’t right

Teacher improvements/comments

  • Add effects in the clip where the model opens the curtains
  • Try make more of an connection with the audience and performer
  • Edit to the beat more
  • Slower exist for the party shoot
  • Re-shoot putting slippers on (out of focus)

Focusing forward, me and my partner will act on this feedback, making any improvements possible to show understanding and growth when working with Premier Pro.
