This frame uses lead space and the person in the middle of the frame is the point of interest. The two rowes of people in the middle going vertical through mot of the frame acts as the leading lines and the frame also uses the rule of thirds with the building seen in the back. The frame uses lighting to light up the building in the back giving a sunlight effect. The leading lines have an impact on the audience as it diverts the point of intrest to the lines and to the person standing in the middle. The leading lines end up to the building which is in the sun showing thats what the director wants the audience’s attention to be at aswell.

Below is our class slide share that we collectively worked on to describe the Mise-en-scene of the scene of The Captain’s Feast.

The opening scene shows us as the audience maids setting up the dinner table. They are wearing black clothing with white aprons which infers to us that they are working class members of society. Because there is more than one maid setting up the table it connotes to us that the family or person who the maids work for are wealthy enough to have more than one.

Carmen is seen getting pushed by one of the maids in a baby blue coloured dress and wearing nice earrings. This shows that compared to the other men and the other to women who were wearing dark and black clothing, the others are more corrupt than Carmen.

On the dining table when everyone is eating there is a shot allowing the audience to see the amount of food which is on the table. It shows that there is too much food to be shared between them inferring that they’re greedy and selfless. We can also see the wine glasses which all have wine in them which portrays them to be classy and people of power.

Lastly the action of the actors. For the most part the Captain was speaking to everyone at the dinner table whilst everyone’s heads turned and faced him to listen. This indicates to the audience that the Captain is a very important person.
