Music Video Draft 3

Here is the third draft of our music video as you can see I have made the following changes:

  • A bigger variety of shots
  • Filmed more footage
  • Added more props to help support the narrative and themes of the song
  • Enhanced the colour saturation while editing

We showed our video to our peers and collected the following targets and positive feedback on what to keep:

  • Add borders for effect, to make the video more appealing to the eye
  • The colours of the toys stand out well and enhance the vibrancy of the video
  • Lip syncing is slightly off in some shots
  • Add more interseting narrative to keep the viewer entertained

Moving forward I think it is important that we add more interesting footage to make the video as exciting as we can, by using and adding a different setting other than the studio and classroom, telling our character to move round more (add more movement) and experiment more with effects and finally adjust the lip syncing more.

Teacher feedback- Screencastify

Here is my teachers feedback of the second draft of my music video, overall my teacher said that she liked the majority of our narrative shots but there is room for a lot of improvement in order to make the music video to the best of our ability.

Positives:

  • Good shots of toys in studio
  • The shots of putting the costume on are effective

Things which need improving:

  • More close ups of toys, and a more creative variety
  • More spaceman shots, with brighter lighting and make the spaceman clips appear earlier
  • Re-record performance and create more intimacy and movement, also try a better setting

Music Video Draft 2

Here is my groups second draft of our music video, as you can see we have successfully added more narrative to our video however there is a lot of room for improvement.

The things which went well were:

-Building skills on our editing

-Applying some of our narrative

-More varied shots

Our targets are:

-To film a lot more footage

-Change setting

-Use more varied camera angles

– Experiment with editing effects

Shoot 2 Reflection (Narrative)

For shoot 2 we decided to add our narrative in, our narrative consisted on our star playing with toys and reflecting back on the past, this is to adress the songs key theme of nostalgia. I believe that this shoot went well, our star was in character and we mananged to gather a wide variety of shots of him interracted with the toys to support the narrative of him looking back on the past. I think it could of been better if we picked a more interesting and vibrant setting to add more excitement, possibly outdoors. But we will take this into account for our third draft.

Shoot 1 Reflection (performance)

Our first shoot was completed at Delancey College Campus, I think it went quite well as we were able to experiment with shot angles and it allowed the performer to gain more confidence and improve his performing. We chose this location as we are using it as our location for our final video, therefore using the location to practice helped us to be familiar with the set up and surroundings. We practiced using a mid shot, a long shot and a close up. During this shoot we successfully experimented with camera angles, made sure the performer knew the words and ensured they were confident enough for our future video.

There are some targets for us to remember and learn from when moving on towards our final draft, these include;

  • Use a range of different angles to make the video more interesting to actually view, at the moment we are just using a closeup, a mid-shot and a long-shot.
  • Prepare our star by making sure he knows the words, and directing him what to do with the guitar
  • more close up intimate shots should be used on the star, as we really only have 1 close up

Star Image- The Performer

In order to develop our star which will be part of the genre of Brit-Pop I decided to create a star image analysis which shows how stars in my chosen genre present themselves. It is vital to take inspiration from this and consider it when developing our star image. This is because we want our star to be comventional to the genre and appear and ordinary and extraordinary.

Music Video Draft 1- Rough cut

Overall I think the shoot went relatively well, our actor knew all of the words and we were able to experiment with some shots which we will use in our final draft. This rough draft was important for us as it made us realize the improvements we need to add when it comes to our final music video.

Targets:

-Smoother transition of shots

-More variety of shots

-More facial expression of actor, get actor to play guitar

-Add some movement shots

-More personal shots with actor
