Perlim Task and Mood Montage

In order to develop our skills in film we were all set a task to create a montage in groups of three and select a title from a list of themes. The title my group chose was ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, after choosing our title we created a storyboard (shown below) where we planned out the montage in terms of shots and angles. We then went out and filmed our shots using a DSLR.

After we completed the shots we uploaded our footage to the D drive and then uploaded it to Premiere Pro, we used this to edit our shots, on here we merged the shots, cropped them, added effects and arranged them in a way which told our story. We also learnt how to add music. I think our montage doesn’t have a very strong impact but it does show the viewer how beauty is subjective and different between people. I believe there small sense of story, however if the title wasn’t included on the video many people may struggle to recognize the story therefore I think we could of made it more clearer and easy to recognize. On cut 0.05 the slow rising shot of the sky symbolizes the progression of thought of the actors, they are thinking about what they each find beautiful. There is a sense of progression in the video as it is showing the progression of things each person sees as beauty. Overall I think this task went well and is going to really help me when creating and editing a music video, this montage helped me to practice my skills in creating a story in a montage, and develop my editing skills on Premiere Pro. The things that went well in this montage was the variety of shots used, this helped us also develop our filming and shot skills. One thing which I would like to improve is my skills in Permiere Pro a little more, looking at the montage I could of added more effects and added a fade of the music at the end. I will be sure to learn from this and take it into account when it comes to making a music video.
