Completing a risk assesment has helped us to understand the risks that may arise when out shooting our performance. We are now prepared for any situations that may occur when shooting.

Production Meeting Agenda

To achieve a shoot that will capture our vision of how the video will turn out, perfect planning is neccessary. Therefore we created a Production Meeting Agenda to finalise and confirm our ideas and how we will achieve them, we put considerable thought into each aspect of the performance shoot to create the best video possible.

Star Image – The Performer

The media is a huge influence on how an artist is portrayed to the public. Therefore I created a Canva presentation to summarise what we have to present when creating our digipak and music video

Design by Harvey Ogier

We will aim to achieve this character in our music video and digipak by using the conventions of the indie genre, ie. soft colours, friendly personality. The music video will be key in portraying our performer in this manner as we will see the artists movements and mannerisms.

Final Pitch

After me and Izzy presented our mini pitches to each other we decided to go with a song and narrrative that matched our creative visions, after we decided on our song  and narrative, we created a final pitch to present to our teacher seen above.

We chose the song ’Best Friend’ by Steve Lacey as we both had strong ideas that we can combine for the narrative and performance sequences.

We then presented these ideas to Mrs Cobb to gain feedback on where to improve.

To summarise listed below is 6 positves and 6 aspects to consider when we create our video.

Positives:

  • The song and our narrative ideas mesh together well
  • Our performer is a musician and lead singer of a band, therefore the lip syncing will look natural
  • The idea of intertwing our performance and narrative is creative and could work
  • We are conventional to the Indie/Soul genre
  • There is a clear structure that we can follow
  • We can produce creative and unique shots to enhance our video

Aspects to consider:

  • Romance is hard to convey without the use of words
  • The acting needs to be distinct and clear
  • Have a unique location so we dont look like every other love story
  • Make sure MES matches our genre
  • Array of different shots
  • Find more people to act to create atmosphere

Perfect Production Group

This document states that Izzy and I are willing to make sure our music video will become a perfect product as well as being tolerant throughout the filming and editing process in order to make it the best quality we can. We decided our strengths and weaknesses by communicating as a team.

This document shows we can share roles and responsibilities and work well as a team. Doing this document has helped us stay accountable and organised.

Artists Permission

Copyright is a huge problem in the music industry therefore we had to explicitally announce that our music videos are educational purposes only.

This message shows our intent to follow copyright regulations and to make sure to stay within the law when creating our music video.

Final Choice

After me and Izzy presented our pitches to each other, we chose a song that matches both of our ideas and and expectations for the narrativ and performance, this song is ‘Best Friend’ by Rex Orange County. After we decided on out song we consolidated our ideas into a Google slide presentation to further undestand the direction we will take when we come to filming our music video.

Creating a pitch with our narrative and performance planned out will help us create a music video that is creative yet also conventional.

Initial Ideas – Mini Pitch

Below I have created a ‘Mini Pitch’ that includes consolidated ideas of what my music video could become.

I have described a brief narrative and performance section to help me figure out how to create and present my star image. By presenting all these ideas onto a google slide it has helped me to consolidate and try and narrow down what ideas I would like to pursue in my music video.

Narrative exploration

Destroy Yourself – A women is wanting love and in attempt to find it she runs from her past self

Tables Turned – A past victim of police brutality shows what is possible for people living in poverty

Champagne Struggle – A successful man struggling to comprehend his failing relationship

Previous Student’s Work – assessment and critique

Criticism is a neccasarry part of the world, it shouldnt be seen as an attack but rather a learning expierence for both sides. Therefore I reviewed a music video to learn common errors and pitfalls that I can avoid when creating my own music video.

The shots of the ‘King’ are very well framed, the use of low shots give him a sense of power and bravado combined with the acting of the ‘King’ it creates a very good story that is entertaining and creative. The rotating spin around the singer in the quarry is dizzying which matches the song as the vocals are muffled and sound like they are coming through a loudspeaker.  The lip-syncing at times was underwhelming at best and terrible at worst, however the excellent use of unique locations and camera techniques creates a fantastic video.

Although this video is not perfect, it excels with its strengths and the song choice is creative and unique making this video my favourite of all previous students’.
