Music Video Final Draft

Music Video Final Draft

Below is our final draft of the music video.

In our production I decided to develop and challenge the typical conventions of the indie genre. We made sure we made the video had both narrative and performance so that it could fit the expectations of the audience as Altman suggests. We used a narrative showing two people not sure if they are in love or not but then in the end they are happy and figure out their dilemma. Our video is in chronological order and has no flashbacks. The artist doesn’t interact with the camera often and the fourth wall is also rarely broken but we decided to go against that typical convention when shooting our performance.

Our video was filmed using close ups so the footage is authentic and organic. This style of filming fitted with the generic natural and authentic conventions of the indie genre.

Digipak Final Draft

Digipak Final Draft

Below is the Final Draft of my Digipak.

Back Cover

Using the feedback from my teacher and peers, I made a few changes to my final digipak.

  1. I first extended the hands to the white lines of the spines
  2. I added a shadow to the ‘Francesco’ font on the front cover
  3. I added shadow to the circle shape on the front cover
  4. I slightly changed the filter on one of the images on the inside left pane.
  5. I added a barcode and the copyrite message
  6. I changed the spacing of the letters and stars on the spine so they weren’t clustered together

Overall, I would say I have successfully represented the star and the indie genre. I had to make sure my star has a relatable and approachable star image (Dyer) to give the audience a call to action, as they will be thinking the star is just like them. In order to fit the conventions of the genre, I needed to ensure my star is dressed appropriately and that they had conventional props. I added in the pearls in as a cultural code (Barthes) as for some cultures the use of pearls and a man might not be understood or could be decoded and read differently.

I knew I needed to add some sort of graphic, for example the graphic of the hands meeting in a hand drawn motif on the back which is a symbolic code for the romantic and positive vibe for the star and the album. I used pink because it represents a metrosexual fluidity that the audience will decode. I used the sans serif font to sway away from the typical bubbly style of the fonts throughout the indie genre and to appeal to the young, contemporary audience.

Social Media Page Draft 2

Social Media Page Draft 2

Here is my final draft for the social media page.

I have added in some more competitions as well as some CMC to get the audience involved as well as to make the star known for their charity support. I have also added images of him at an award show to sway away from some of the graphics that were taking over the feed slightly.

Digipak Draft 3

Digipak Draft 3

After taking in the feedback from draft 2, I have spent time improving my digipak.

I have completely changed the layout and colour-scheme to make it more fitting to the genre as well as added in some graphics to further add to the digipaks appearance. I have added filters and changed the colouring of some of the photos to make them more appealing to the audience.

I got feedback on my album and everyone thought it was the right genre which means I have successfully made the digipak have conventions of the indie genre.

Contact sheets for digipak

Contact sheets for digipak

Above are the contact sheets from our shoot.

After the shoot we had to chose some of our favourites.

We needed to make sure we had shots for the digipak but also for the social media page, so we made sure to get a wide vartiey of shots. I made a few overlays for the projector with our album name and also the name of one of the songs.

Overall I’d say this is the most successful shot we have had as we got a variety of shots, distances and props.

Marketing Timeline

Marketing Timeline

It is essential to have a marketing strategy when creating a social media page. Timing needs to be correct to ensure that maximum audience interaction happens.

I have created a marketing timeline that I will follow when creating my posts onto instagram. It includes  AIDA as well as the Blumler and Katz gratification theory. I will make posts and stories to make the star a down to earth and relatable character but also use graphics to make the audience want to interact.

Focusing forward, this task has helped me identify what posts I need to do on the page and the order I need to do them in for maximum audience satisfaction and interaction.
