Mise en Scene Analysis

Mise en scene is a French phrase roughly translated as ”placed in the scene” and can make or break an ad.  Choosing the right objects to put in frame can subconsciously place images and connotations in someones mind, forcing them to think in a particular way towards something. For instance, a leather jacket can attach connotations of rebellious behavior.  In the same way, an acoustic guitar may give connotations of a Western American farmer. This technique gives advertisers or publishers a lot to work with, manipulating consumers to think something when they don’t even know there being manipulated. This doesn’t of course work, for just clothing and props it works for everything e.g. hair makeup etc. Appealing to a certain crowd is integral to creating a magazine which people can look at and be convinced it’s tailored to their tastes particularly in regards to music, as people are very picky about the music they listen to, so getting the right genre and exploring it within the expectations of your target audience is key and something I’ll have to keep in mind while designing my own.

Magazine textual analysis

While designing a magazine there are many factors to keep in mind for instance quite strikingly is the use of color aside from black and white magazines will usually sick to using three or four colors, in this case those colors are gold blue red and a hint of yellow. This keeps the front page allot easier on the eyes while keeping the reader interested all of these factors must be kept in mind to create an engaging magazine. Its clear that this magazine is aimed at a younger millennial audience as evident by the design reminiscent of apple design with the bold white and contrasting black most likely to intise a younger audience, the colors keep it simple and as a result it doesn’t appear to be an assault on your eyes but also as a result prioritizes features as whats bold or in black and white we know whats important in this magazine witch is incredibly useful of a technique.

So…Hello media studies

I currently dont have any media skills eg in photography or media production although i am studying film witch seems like it may prove useful. I hope to learn how to produce media most likely in the form of advertising publishing or some form of film making, i dont have any prior experience in camera work or Photoshop ect. I do however love film and media and said instrests make me think media will be more interesting for me personally looking at both of these industries. I hope that a media a level will assist me in applying for a suitable university studying filming or media.

tour poster analysis

The analysis will be useful to keep in mind as it lists incredible techniques to grab an audiences attention and keep them intrestedin your product. Especially for genera this could come in handy making sure to make your product look rebellious or edgy if your advertising something like punk or rock and making your product look rural and calming if your say a country star.

so im a prosumer

my media collage follows the Blumler and Katz model that sates that all the media we consume fits into four distinct categories for example, all the music for me can go into entertainment, social interaction or identity as the music listens too shapes ones identity but also i will share music with friends and sing with them making it a social activity. The films put up there follow similarly as people conversate about film constantly and they are predominately made to be entertaining but also as a quote them so much they become part of the way i speak to people and my identity. I only put one book up and its because i dont read much and as a result dont use them for social interaction although im aware book clubs exist, but its more of an identity thing for me as its an auto biography of someone who i believe to be incredible and as a result after reading i have new opinions and ideas. Media is important to us as it allows us to socialise at a much higher caliber enabling us to create friendships and relationships with people that share a common idea eg we like people who like the things we like. It can range from making friends through going to punk shows or both watching the same talk show or listening to the same podcast media allows us to socialist with like minded individuals.
