We made a digipac, music video and social media page for our artists, this was used in order to promote our artists and their new album release. “Brief Divide” is a sensational rising duo taking the alt-rock world by storm with their hit singles, such as “24 Carat Brick” and “Dangerous Subway”. Now they are coming out with their brand new album to bring the world into a new generation of sound. This album “Lights Out” will be coming out soon with revolutionary songs such as “Paper Crown” and “More Fake News”. These songs are just a couple appearing in the unbelievable lineup on their way to change the genre, and the world, forever!” This was our mission statement that we need to follow.

We had to encode our media in a way that it was easy and appealing for the consumers to decode and gain the information we want them to. This is what Stuart Hall would say is the reception theory. We made sure to keep a common star image and themes to follow our genres conventions, this is in order to appeal to our genres target audience and keep to a sense of “branding”. In order to do this we had to use these over all three of our products being our digipak, music video and social media page. you created an integrated advertising campaign across the platforms in order to sell the brand, with the same message across multiple platforms.

In order to create a visually appealing, professional and follow the alt rock genres conventions in our music video, we needed to research the other bands in our genre and find out the common conventions and mise en scene, one video being the original video from Royal Blood for Lights Out.

We had to research how the stars portrayed themselves in their music videos with their star images, as Dyer’s star theory proves that star image is important to gain interest from the consumers. We researched the ratio between performance and narrative in music videos of our genre in order to get it right in our music video, we found out that we needed more performance then narrative in our video which we use as a blueprint, according to Altman. We made sure to make our video edgy and dark for the narrative representing a broken man spiraling down below rock bottom and made the performance energetic in order to follow conventions of our genre. Our research ended up dramatically changing our music video and how it portrayed the message in the narrative and how our stars acted in the video. It affected the mise en scene for the video with us opting for more dark and abandoned scenes in the performance and more edgy and focused on the emotions in the narrative.

Our stars are alt rock artists and when creating a digi pack for them we needed to remember this and follow the genre’s conventions and our stars’ star images.

We tried to represent our stars as arrogant and that they feel that people should know who they are and will want to buy the album even without an image of them on the front pane. We used a lightbulb smashing to fit the album’s title and also to connote the band’s anti-political standpoints with them smashing the lightbulb representing them breaking the common rules and the norm, we also used this as a symbolic code to connote the feeling of anger and rebellion to our audience. We made sure to put an image of the band members playing a song in a blurry filter in order to show off their angst with their not caring attitude but at the same time representing their ordinary star image just boys in a band doing their thing. We used very bold and minimalistic colors in order to grab the consumers attention and used a simplistic style which is symbolic to show how they speak out in a blunt and simplistic way with no restrictions on their beliefs. We made sure to use a black background over our digipac in order to bring out the band’s edgy and rebellious personality traits. We used graphics of instruments on the front cover in order to represent the band’s passion for the music and their songs, this follows Dyer’s star theory on how people get attracted to consume depending on the star and their beliefs. We also kept an ongoing theme and the color palette over the whole digipak in order to keep the emotion and energy over all of the panes.

In order to bring attention and gain and keep an audience for our artists we needed to have a social media page. This was to keep our fans updated and provide our artists with a means to express themselves and their star image to gain fans judged on their ideals and image. We had to make sure to stay attractive to our target audience and their expressive and edgy personalities. To do this we will follow our created star image created to fit our audience.

We made sure to give our stars a personal identity and have them spread their ideals through spreading messages of charities, this in turn represents to the consumers of the social media pages that the artists care and have a soft side to what they believe in and are not afraid to spread the word. We made sure to have social interaction with our fans and the people that commented on our page answering questions and showing that we care about them. We used the page in order to advertise our new releases including albums, singles and merch, this helps out a lot as it goes directly to our target audience following our page. We made sure to follow the conventions of our genre and their media pages, we did this by looking at bands’ social media pages and identifying terms and features used, including bands of the genre such as Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood. We made sure to keep links and ways to access the media advertised in order for our fans to find out more and be able to get their hands on the media our artist creates. We used various elements of media language, like words, fonts, images, information to communicate with your audience.
