Complete Magazine Draft 3

Front page: what’s new?

For my front cover I have changed the barcode to have smoother edges, I have also changed the font back to how it originally was for the cover lines.

Contents page: what’s new?

For my contents page I have changed the borders, this is because it was hard to see where the page ended when a white background was behind, it also looked a lot better with the black borders around it.

DPS: what’s new?

For my double page spread I have changed the layout completely in terms of the right side of the dps, I have also moved the stand first from the right page to the left page to make room for a big title that will hook the readers in and gain their interest. I have also changed things like the coloring of letters and the font on the article.

Final improvements:

Front cover:

  • Needs issue number.
  • Could have a thicker masthead.
  • Twist the inside of the pug and put on an angle.
  • Make the “Isaac foot” more visible.
  • Move right hand pug next to left pug to make more room for cover lines.
  • Change spelling mistakes.

Contents Page:

  • Find a different font for the word “contents”.
  • Page numbers and cover lines, make a bit bolder.
  • Change the line spacing.
  • Caption Photographs.
  • Needs a page number.

Double Page Spread:

  • Create a page number to link the contents page and double page spread.
  • Get rid of Hyphens on the article.
  • Needs some graphics and other things to hook reader in.
  • Make it similar to front cover as it looks as if it’s from a different magazine.

2nd Draft Of Dps

What’s new and what’s next?

For my double page spread I have changed the Photograph and the layout entirely, this is because the old layout was too busy and was too wordy for someone of my genre so it did not make sense keeping it that way. What I will be changing for my draft 3 is:

  • adding more color and vibrancy to hook the reader in.
  • Another change in layout to make everything peace together and fit.
  • Add a big title at the top to even further draw the reader in.
  • Move the stand first up to the top left to make room for the big title.
  • Add page numbers on both pages.
  • Caption both Photographs.
  • change the color of the writing down the side of the page.
  • Add an editors note;.

2nd Draft Of Contents Page

What’s new and what’s next?

For my contents page I have changed the images that are in the corners, I have also slanted the word “contents” this is so it will catch the readers eyes and allows them to know what they are looking at. Not much has changed for the second draft, however I will be making these changes for my third draft:

  • Make the word “contents” bolder.
  • Change the font used for the word “contents”.
  • Caption the photographs so the user knows what they’re looking at.
  • Apply thick dark borders around the page in order to make the writing stand out.

2nd Draft Of Front Page

What’s new & what’s next?

I have changed the fonts for the cover lines to make them stick out. I have now also added additional pugs with different colored lettering on them, because of this I also changed the color of “Isaac foot” to a nice white and black color. What I will change next are:

  • The font back to the same as draft 1 as I prefer it.
  • I will change the barcode and make it look more flush with the front cover.
  • I will also add an issue number.

3 things I like:

  • I like the layout of the double page spread.
  • I also like the font of the cover title.
  • Finally I like the image used on the left side of the DPS.

5 Targets to make it better:

  • The double page spread needs some more vibrancy and color.
  • It also needs a caption with the photograph in the bottom right of the double page spread.
  • The double page spread needs the articles inserted as well.
  • The model needs to be edited slightly so the contrast is slightly lower to prevent that orange tinge that you can see on his face.
  • Lastly the double page spread could do with better title placement, instead of having it behind the model it could be placed in front instead.

My reflection:

For my DPS I used an blank a3 sheet in InDesign with two margins on the inside and on the outside, putting together my double page spread required many things, for example I had to create a blue background for the model in photoshop, cut him out, and then place him in front of it. There are many improvements that can be made with the double page spread in which I will implement on the final product, for example the text will be a different font, it will also have slightly different sizing’s and the model will be edited slightly. I would also like to make it slightly more colorful to go with the ‘Hip-Hop’ esthetic and make it fit in with other magazines producing similar content.  The double page spread definitely needs improvements however it is a good foundation for what I am going for the final product.

Second shoot contact sheet

My Reflection:

This is my second shoot’s contact sheet, as you can see there aren’t as many photographs as the previous contact sheet I had done in the production of my magazines front cover, however I am happier with these ones as a whole as they are good quality shots from many different angles and show a more diverse range of backgrounds and poses, this allows me to not only use these images for a DPS, I can also use them for other projects. I made use of the timer feature on the camera as you can see I managed to get into some of the shots with my model, this also helped with getting the right angles for some photo’s whilst my model was getting ready. Although there are some out of focus photo’s, there are also some very decent ones. For example the photo that I have selected is my favorite this is because the background is very textured, the model is posing very well portraying a sense of carelessness and the photo is crystal clear. The outfit that the model is wearing

Draft feature article

This is my draft feature article:

Lil Hagerich made waves with the announcement of his Dawn FM album. As the first major release of the year, Lil Hagerich’s first-week projections are in, placing him between 150,000 and 170,000 equivalent album units in the first week, Hits daily double notes.

The new album brought in 60 million streams on the first day and has already surpassed the 100 million stream number. Lil Hagerich’s previous effort, After Hours, brought in 444,000 units in the first week.

Over the weekend, Lil Hagerich continued to immerse fans in the Dawn FM experience, releasing his new video for “Shadow Banned.” The dark and artsy showcase brings one of the best offerings from the album to our screens.

After the surprise announcement to open the new year, Lil Hagerich keeps his promise and delivers his new album Dawn FM.

He calls the album a “sonic experience,” and it features Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Jim Carrey, among others.

Lil Hagerich was featured in “Hop-Hip,” a live broadcast event that aired exclusively on the Amazon Music channel on Twitch and in the Amazon Music app, as part of the launch. Amazon.com/LilH and the Amazon Music app have exclusive apparel for the event, including a limited-edition hoodie, t-shirt, and sweatshirt commemorating the live stream. For the following 48 hours, fans will be able to purchase merchandise.

Lil Hagerich has also announced that he will be going on tour in 2022, the Hip-Hop sensation states “If Covid-19 is under control soon then I will perform live in Los Angeles, the Uk and Abu Dhabi”. Although the tour is not fully confirmed just yet twitter users are going insane, with one user commenting “This is gonna be absolutely lit” and another user commenting “cannot wait for this man, will see you in LA”.

I wrote this article in one go and looked at other websites for credibility and to check if this would be something that could actually be published.

However I went through the article a few times and noticed some minor mistakes and things that may have been left out, so I have gone through the article and made some minor edits…

This is my 2nd draft for the article:

Language Analysis

Intro to a long read:

This is an article that I have recently read. It’s a biography written about Josh Homme and it explains his fascinating trip to the San Juan Islands (a saltwater archipelago in the northwest of America). He connotes  about his hiking trip around the pioneers cemetery located in the heart of Roche harbour, and how the founding people of the island built his place to lay down their deceased family memes and workers. Subsequently he stumbles upon a fascinating memorial stone marked with the words “The kids from Roche Harbour come here to drink”. All of a sudden his imagination lit up and thoughts flooded his head, he realized the connection between the living and the dead. He states that when he dies he wants ‘the queens of the stone age’ to have a party above his grave.

Furthermore, the way it’s laid out is in one ephemeral paragraph, this is good because the text goes straight to the point instead of making it long winded. The biography also has an appealing style to it ranging from a substantial Chinese A to a match text font.

Josh Homme is represented as arrogant and controversial since he likes the idea of dancing on someone’s grave; even though he’s doing it in honour to celebrate someone’s life. “He wants people to have the chance to party on top of him”.
