Evaluation Question 3

Below is Victoria’s and my evaluation question 3.In this powerpoint it says who we would like our thriller to be distributed by, how we would like it to be distributed and also why. From doing this PowerPoint I have learnt more about what distributors do and also who the Big six are.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Final Targets

These are our targets for our final draft (draft 4), that received from our teacher, these targets are just little tweaks that we can make to our thriller. To make it the absolute best that it can be.

Below is the targets that we got given, click on the image to see it in full

Draft 4

This is our final draft for our thriller which includes effects, titles and sound. In this draft we have taken upon all the feedback that we received from our draft 3 feedback and also add in a couple more sounds that we thought we would need. Draft four is basically are finished thriller, however we will receive some feedback of minor tweaks that we can do to our thriller from our teacher. As well as responding to the feedback from our teacher we will also be adding in our own production company to the start of the thriller, to give it a more professional finish.

Below is our draft 4 of our thriller

Draft 3 Feedback

This is our feedback for our draft 3 which includes titles and some sound. For our feedback we decided to record some of our classmates to watching our draft three and say what they thought was good and bad about are titles and sound. They also said suggestions of how we could change it.

I find this was a good way of getting feedback as we got to see people’s reaction to our thriller when they first saw it.

Below is a our video for our draft three feedback

Draft 3 – Sound

After creating our titles we went on to adding in sound effects/music to our thriller. For this we used foley sounds that we created ourselves, downloaded copy write free sounds off of freesounds.org.

For our sound effects we try to make it so that they were perfectly in time with each shot when it appeared on the screen. The music behind the clips is an ambient backing track which includes: sharp strings, drum beats and high pitched noises. We decided to go for this track as it created an uneasy feel which would create discomfort for the audience, which is what our survey said about how audiences wanted to feel during the thriller.

Below is our draft 3 with the beginnings of our sounds

Sound Effects/Music

We used Premier Pro and Audacity when it came to editing our digetic, non-digetic and foley sounds.

The first step we took when it came to adding in our sounds was to add the main background music that will be heard through out our thriller. We reason we did this first was because we thought it would be easier for us to layer up all the other sound effects on top of our main track to make sure that it fitted in with it. After we add the main track we then added in the rest of sounds. We used the cropping tool, to crop some of the sound clips that we had, so that it fitted in perfectly with the shots. We then dragged these newly cropped clips into a new audio layer. We did this to make it easier to see exactly where each sound was in our sequence and also it made it easier when it came to re editing some of the sounds.

Another step we used when it came editing our sound/music was audio transitions. In most cases we used the cross fade transitions on certain sounds clips, as on some of the sounds we wanted them to either get louder or to get quieter.

As well as using Premier Pro, we also used audacity to help us edit some of the sounds. For instance we used audacity to change the pitch of the knife shing and also of the girl screaming. This is because we felt that the original sound clip was too high of pitch that it didn’t sound match the shots as best as it could of.

Foley Sounds

For our thriller we decided to add in some of our own foley sounds. Foley sounds are sound clips which have been created using everyday objects for instance, dropping a pile of books onto the ground to make it sound like a body falling on the floor.

Below are our foley sounds that we created, which we recorded using a handheld microphone.

Falling onto a wooden crate

image

We used Kit’s school bag to drop onto some planks of wood that we found. We decided to do this as we thought it was the best way to create the sound of a person falling onto a wooden crate.

Knife scraping

image

We used a coin to scrap fast across the the leg of a table to create a knife scraping  sound. This sound will then be used to make the noise of the knife getting picked up off of a metal tray.

Stabbing/squelch noise

 image

We made the stabbing noise by getting an orange and stabbing it with a pen. The reason we used an orange is because we thought it would make the most realistic sound of a person getting stabbed. Once we created the stab noise, we then went on to creating the squelching noise. We did this by squishing the orange that we had stabbed. We did this, as we thought that we could either use the sound for a footstep in a puddle or for when the doctor scrunches the cloth together.

Sound Moodtrack

We used freesound, soundcloud and YouTube when it came to researching and looking at sounds that we could potentially use for our thriller.

Below is my sound Moodtrack that I created, to show some of the music and sound effects that I thought would be relevant to our thriller. This Moodtrack includes both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds.

Ambient Music:

I think this piece of music will be very good throughout the thriller along with some layered up sounds to add some suspense and drama to our thriller.

Waves:

This will be useful for the beginning of the video along with some wind sounds. When the outside shots of the castle are shown.

Concrete Walk:

These could be useful for our thriller, when the detectives our looking around the castle, but we will need to make sure that they fit in and match the shots.

Girl Breathing:

The sound of the girl breathing could be used when the girl is running away from the doctor, to show that she is out of breathe and panicked
