In this task we had to research music tour posters for our genre of music and explain the design conventions used in each poster. I found that in each of the posters I found there was a common colour palette chosen including red and white in particular but also blue, yellow and black. This shows they all have similar concepts of the genre of western country music as these colours are iconic to the American flag. The fonts used in each tour poster are different but all fit the genre of western country music. In most of the posters I chose they have used more then one font but made sure each and every font it bold and easy to read especially for the masthead. The colours and fonts both help all the tour posters stand out and make it eye catching for anyone especially if your interested in this type of music. Each poster is different in it’s own ways but have a lot of similar aspects such as colour schemes, images and fonts. The conventional design features such as the masthead, main cover star, cover lines and the plugs all make the poster a whole and work together to make the poster more intriguing.

This poster is conventional, because I included the features of a magazine cover. They are:

I tried to make sure my tour poster matched/followed a similar colour scheme and layout of the posters I researched. I did this to try and make it look more like a professional design for a tour poster. However, I tried to make it unique by choosing different fonts and ideas from more then one tour poster that I researched. For example I used the idea of a boarder from one poster but the wording at the bottom from another. I did this to make it look like I didn’t directly copy the same lay out from one poster but use a collective of different ideas.

How it addresses AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire and Action):

It grabs the readers attention by the bold fonts and distinctive colours but also because of the large main cover star. I think the use of  a plain background and then the use of my chosen colour scheme draws attention as well because the background helps the colours of the fonts and image to stand out more.

It helps make the reader interested by having the fonts big and bold so you can read it from close and from afar which will draw the reader closer to properly read the poster. The image also contributes to this.

It helps make the reader desire to not just read it but to go to the event. It does this by giving you all the information needed to find out more, who its about and buy tickets and download or buy the album. This is done purposely to make the reader more curious as to how good the show is going to be.

The overall action in AIDA is used as there is a link to the website to show the viewers how easy it is to buy a ticked or album. It also tells you where you can physically buy the album or ticket which helps more tickets and albums to be sold.

Reflection:

I feel that what went well in this task was that I managed to get the poster looking quite similar to the main poster I was taking ideas from and used as a main source of inspiration which was the Willie Nelson tour poster. The main cover star was the main and biggest thing on the page which I edited to make sure it didn’t look stretched and looked in proportion. The way I placed the image wasn’t like the other posters I researched which made it more unique. I did this because in my opinion I felt like it would look out of place if I put it in the centre or anywhere else. Another thing I felt went well was the border and lines that brought out the text on my front cover, which helps the poster to be more appealing to the reader which is very useful.

However there were things I thought I could improve on. One of these was the fact it is a tour poster which is multiple different performances on different days and places which I didn’t feature in my poster, I only featured one of the dates and times. Next time I would feature all/more dates, times and places. Another thing I could improve on is I should of covered or put something so the end of the guitar the main cover star is holding is covered as it just looks more just stuck on rather then more of a feature. This would of helped it to fit in more.
