Narrative Development

Introduction:

We have now filmed our performance part of our music video so it is now time to start planning for our narrative shoot which will take a little more time. As part of our planning we created a document which includes all the necessary information for our narrative. This included the structure, key MES and about the characters. As well as that we included a brief story line of our narrative.

Reflection:

This was a useful task as we used it to look back at before and during our shoot so we had a clear idea of what our aims were and what was needed. This helped us to feel more prepared. It also ensured that we knew what type of narrative we were doing and what the knew themes were so we knew how we were going to portray it.

We also referred back to Todorov’s Theory when planning our narrative. We did this to make sure that there is a build up of climax up to the event and that it results in restoration and the problem solved. This shows we have a beginning, middle and end to our narrative. A music video narrative will often have an uncompleted arch and for it to be repeatable. Most music videos will have an amplified narrative, meaning it includes illustrative and disjunctive aspects. A lot of narratives are also non-linear, meaning they do not run in chronological order.
