Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning, production and post production and evaluation stages?

I created a moodboard using pinterest that includes 30 pins including a variety of different technologies that I used throughout all of the stages of making my products. These stages are research, production, post-production and evaluation. Creating this moodboard was a good reflective task as it made me realise how much I have accomplished this year. It also clearly displays what technologies I now have a good understanding of.

In the research my moodboard showcases how and what I researched for all of my products so that I could learn the conventions of my genre and artist.

During production I used multiple different technologies to get started with all of my ideas that were majority based off of work from all of the research that I had done.

At post-production I pieced together all of the work that I had designed and produced in the production stage. All the technologies that I used at the production stage of my products is noted in my pinterest moodboard.

Lastly, I have noted all of the technologies that I used at the evaluation stage. Such as how I collected feedback and exported my work.

Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does you media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real products?

In the slide share below I have analysed my work in detail in comparison to other professional media products similar to my own. This task clearly shows where I have chosen to conform to the common conventions of the pop genre and where I have thought it to be more appropriate to break common conventions.

Music Video – Draft 5

Below is our draft 5 of our music video. This is our final draft before of final product. It includes all of the footage that we intend to use and has no gaps throughout. The rap section and last chorus has not been completely filled in. In the performance side of the last section we attained more footage and have compiled a completely new section that we feel works very well.

Print Production Draft 2 – Digipak and Advert

 

Below you will see the final products of my Advert and digipak. They have developed in many  different manors such as the texts colour pallet for the digipak and the layout for the advert filling up a lot of the previously blank space.

I feel confident when saying that I feel we have created a digipak and advert that is fitting to our artist and his genre. I feel it is conventional in the sense that it fits the genre by included the artist in the front cover and having the artist’s name larger than the album name. Moreover, I also feel that it is extraordinary in some aspects creating a start image for our artist. We have done this through the use of vibrant colours and textures breaking common conventions but not going too far astray that people will be disappointed to hear that it is a POP album.

Advert – Draft 1 – Feedback and Targets

For our first draft of our advert we thought it would be appropriate and productive for us to collect feedback to see if we had come up with a suitable design that we could tweak.

A lot of the feedback that we received was very positive. From the voice recorded feedback we have managed to pull out some targets for areas to improve on for our next draft.

Targets:

  • Fill up the black black space
  • Increase the size of the image on the page
  • Replace the logos at the bottom of the page with a higher resolution version
  • Make sure that everything is centred and perfectly in line
  • Fix the star rating on the page so that it does not look tacky.

Advert – Draft 1

Below you will find an attachment to our first draft of our advert. To stick to common conventions we decided that it would be best if we used imagery from the front of the album cover. This way the artist album and advert link making the artist and their image more recognisable.

Furthermore, we came to the conclusion that the artist’s name has to stand out by being very big and bold. To add to the desirability of what the advert is trying to sell we felt it important to also include a high rating score and interesting quote. This makes the audience think that whatever the advert is offering is worth their time and money.

Advert Mock-up

For the advert for our digipak we decided that to fit typical conventions we would use the front cover of our album to create the advert for our artists album. Upon looking and analysing other adverts we have discovered that it is very important that we create a star image for our artist. To do this we have decided to use the same approach that we used for our album design itself. This means that our star and his name will take up the majority of the screen. The background of our advert will be black. This is to allow the image of our artist and his name to stand out on the page. The background cannot be complicated our our artist will get lost in it and will not stand our to the target audience.

Upon designing this mock up we have also decided that all wording on the page should be centred on the page as it will keep the page neat and simplistic. The minimalist effect that the poster will have is right for our target audience as we are insuring that all we include are the things that are important.

Here is what we need and will include in our advert;

  • The artist’s name
  • The name of the album
  • A review quote
  • When the album is released
  • How many stars the album has been rated
  • Labels and platforms of release

Advert Conventions

Before attempting to create my own advert for my artist I decided to analyse another pop genre artist’s advert to figure out some common conventions that I should try to include, and what to not include. First of all I noticed that the advert is made by using the same image that is used on the front cover of the album. This is so the audience can make a link between the two, a well though out convention that is wise to include.

However, I have also noticed that this advert ignores some other typical conventions. Such as, including reviews and star ratings.
