Pan’s Labyrinth Context Research.

The different types of contexts we researched for Pan’s Labyrinth are important in helping us understand the cultural and artistic choices made in this film. From understanding the Spanish Civil War we can understand the choices made to create the Captain and the rebels.

Studying context helps when studying any film as the writer and director have to base their ideas on knowledge of the contexts that they are setting their films in. For example, when Mel Gibson directed Hacksaw ridge he needed to understand the different contexts of the war between the USA and Japan during World War Two.
