DRAFT OF FRONT PAGE AND SELF ASSESSMENT

How well is the masthead proportioned and how unique is it?

In my opinion, the masthead I choose goes adequately well with both the front covers design and is highly advertising to the audience that I have chosen. Furthermore, I think that my choice in designing my chosen masthead is highly unique and is very recognizable to readers who would be looking for it in a row, as well as to other people looking for something interesting.

Describe how the cover models are framed well and are they large enough to take centre stage?

In my magazine, the model is in the centre of the front cover looking off to the side midway through a natural movement. This shows a sense of humanity they are dressed in anything flamboyant clothes, they are normal clothes in a genre that would be easy to advertise to the may audience, as it shows relate-ability like a mirror of the audience as if they are in a conversation not judge in envy over a fake unnatural dress.

How has DTP been used to integrate text and images?

In my design, I used Indesign to make my front page stand out more using techniques to layout my magazine’s front cover. Such as using different fonts and colour to signify to the reader which of the cover line are the most important/ are related to the model on the cover.

In what ways does the colour pallet reflect the genre?

The Black, reds and whites in the colour pallet communicate excellently to the audience the mood of the genre and the mood of the person on the magazine’s emotions which link to the choice of vocab in the main cover line.

How far does the font choice covey the genre?

Most of the front is emboldened to make them stand out whilst others are more of a son-serif to make the writing stand out against others in on the magazines other heading showing which ones are to stand out more to the audience all of these are used effectively.

How are does mise en scene communicate the star image and genre?

The costume communicates back the genre of alternative/emo rap. it is bold by the dark with a small amount colour on the top to add some depth to the clothes, this also links the red of the masthead and cover lines. The body language is natural and regular, something you know see anywhere. like the genre, it does focus on materialist items so the posture should be aggressive or overly emotional. the makeup is also natural and minor.

What language is used in the cover line and is it appropriate to the target audience?

In terms of language, the cover line is good which attracts the reader and adds a sense of importance to the magazine and in contents. It also includes a quote from the source which convey a sense of personal account, as though she will be confiding the reader on a personal level is a good use of linguistic structure.

What conventional technical element associated with a magazine cover are present?

I think the magazine is clearly a magazine as it has all the conventional features like a masthead, price, barcode, main cover star main and cover lines. all other these combined together are used to entice the reader to pick up the magazine.

How has the use of photoshop helped communicate the star image and genre?

Photoshop was used well to make thing such as her eyes and lips stand out more, using the dodge and burn tool. As well as cut out the model from the original background to make her easier to put over a solid colour making the magazine look more professional.

Five targets to make my Magazine cover better:

  •  Add pugs to fill up the empty spaces.
  •  Promote the magazine more such as giveaways and events made by RipTide.
  • Photoshop her eyes to make them stand out more because currently, they look flat, with no depth.
  • Colour grade the pink dragon on her top to match the color pallet, make it bolder/more of a statement.
  • Make Masthead bigger.
