Favourite Music Video from Former Student

The use of MES is prominent throughout the video as well as the way the main performers use of star is highly effective in the music video and it connotes the right emotions of the music videos lyrics and well as building effectively on the narrative, also the song works well as a base to build from. Some of the attributes may be used in my music video as inspiration for the MES and other such factors.

Key repetiteur of elements in making a music video include:

  • Technical conventions: Lip-syncing, editing to the beat, composition & framing.  From this video, I have learned that factors such as lip-syncing and editing are key to make the narrative work well with the music. in some parts of this video, the lip-sync and edit is slightly slower than the music which is notisable making it look a little unprofessional.

 

  • Narrative and performance ratio and the type of narrative. the ratio of narrative to performance is about 60:40 as in most areas the main actors are singing but not consistently allows the narrative to give bigger impact, this works well with the Hip Hop genre.

 

  • How the star has been represented (values, attitudes & beliefs). thought this video the star has been represented as a lost soul in a dark chiaroscuro lite room being watched by an ominous figure. using the MES and cinematographer makes for an anxiety drawing video with build tension and press which matches the lyrics expressions.

 

  • How has the video been styled, designed, filmed and edited and what have they done to convey that star image and promote the artist. the video is edit in a faster-phased fashion helping build on the chaos of the lyrics. it is synced with the beat as the artist sings the edit is slower with long scenes, followed by fast shots of movement in a strobe style as the track metronome speeds up to around 350 bpm.

Acknowledging all of these points will help my groups video as learn the elements has given me useful insight on what happens with and without them being used.
