I’m a Media Prosumer!

The collage above is a collection of forms of media which I have consumed and has created entertainment, social interaction, personal identity and information. These terms all come under Blumler and Katz.

I will now give a few examples of some of the forms of media that I have included and how they involve aspects of Blimler and Katz.

Vogue: Entertainment, Personal Identity and Information.

As a beauty and fashion lover, I find vogue a great source of entertainment. I enjoy learning about new fashion trends as well as the overall polished aesthetic of the magazine. I believe vogue inspires people to take more pride in their appearance including spicing up their wardrobe and using fashion as a way of self expression. As a result of this, I think it develops a unique sense of personal identity. In being a magazine, It is full of articles meaning it allows you to take in new and trendy information.

Youtube: Entertainent, Social Interaction and Information.

Youtube is a very well-known platform so  it is a great form of media. It is the perfect tool for entertainment as there are thousands of videos on any interests that people may have, whether that be fashion, dance, food or travel. Also, I love listening to music and it has nearly every song, all for free. It can also be used for social interaction as you can have conversations with different people in the comments sections, getting different points of view or even upload your own video on youtube in allowing the world to interact with it. Finally, there are many different documentaries and tutorials so any information you want to know is all there for you in a video.

Snapchat: Entertainment, Social interaction, Information.

I enjoy using snapchat as I love seeing what my friends are getting up to, as well was communicating with them. On top of that, it is the perfect great for social interaction as it is simple and instant. As well as texting, you can share what you are doing with your friends in that exact moment. Snapchat is also very informative as it offers a large range in popular news and articles,  I find myself reading and learning about new things which usually I would never come across.

Overall, I consume many different types of media daily whether that be for pleasure, discovering new information, finding inspiration, keeping in touch with friends and keeping in touch with the world around me. All aspects that come under the Blumler and Katz theory which are the general reasons why we consume media.

The Blumler and Katz theory will help me in my future productions as it simplifies and groups the four main reasons why we consume media, it breaks them down and makes them easy to understand. As a result, I will be able to clearly think about these points and apply them to my future product.
