Draft 3

This is our draft 3. We sent this draft to our peers to gain some feedback from them.

Reflection

Overall we are proud of our settings, mes en scene and range of shots and I think our peers would agree. However we still have things to edit such as:

  • Editing all lip syncing perfectly to the beat
  • Cut out background on some images
  • Make some clips shorter

Images from shoot 3

Reflection

After a lot more planning for this shoot, we chose a different setting and a reason as to why our star doesn’t like her body. After watching back the videos from this shoot, we realised we’d made the right decision to re-do our narrative as these clips were a lot better and clear as to what the narrative is. Although is some shots the lighting could have been a little bit better, we were pleased with the range of MES EN SCENE we used.

Specsavers

In one of our lessons, two men from specsavers within the media sector came in to help us and give us suggestion relating to our music video and editing techniques.

Feedback

  • Good use of mes en scene, however try and link all the colours so it is obvious it is all meant to be in the same music video telling one narrative.
  • Good variety of shots, but try and shorten some of them so they don’t last too long.
  • Amazing close-ups which help the audience engage with the star. Try to crop out anything unwanted in the background.

What they showed us

  • They showed us how we could edit the colour of the paint in our videos.
  • We were taught how to crop the video so all the mess in the background was no longer in it.
  • The man also showed us how to add a layer in which we can add a filter to give the clip a different meaning.

  • Make some videos shorter
  • Add different filters to make it more interesting

Images from shoot 2

Reflection

Whilst filming shoot 2 it was clear we hadn’t planned it and thought it through to the best of our ability. After watching back the videos we got from it we realised this isn’t what we wanted the narrative to be as the scenes looked too awkward and unrealistic. Therefore,  we made the decision to re shoot our narrative in a different way.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Mini Lip Sync Performance Video

Reflection

This is a short lip sync video that we made using a few of our performance shots. Although there are many areas to improve on, I am happy with how it is coming along. I think we have used the appropriate MES EN SCENE for our song and it’s genre. A variety of shots, locations and costumes have been used. The blue paint clips are good because it is something unusual that will grab your attention.

Targets for improvements

  • We need to ensure that the models lip syncing is it time with the actual song by editing it even more.
  • Include features such as transitions.
  • Make the video flow by editing in certain techniques.

Evaluation of Performance Shoots

Images of us shooting

Reflection

We did two separate shoots for performance. This is because we wanted to get some shots in the field with out model in a lovely white dress to portray her elegance and other shots in the black studio so that we can really focus on facial expressions and also do a paint scene showing that nothing will get under her skin. Personally, I think it went really well as we were doing the shots we were planning on doing but also doing extra shot ideas we were coming up with at the time.

What went well?

  • We managed to get a range of shots in different locations.
  • We filmed from various angles.
  • Everyone cooperated and agreed.
  • Our model was a very good performer who was up for anything.

What could’ve gone better?

  • It took us a while meaning we had to do it in two separate shoots.
  • Our model didn’t know all of the words as we had to change models last minute, meaning to recorded in sections.

Going forward, we will ensure our narrative shot relates to actions and facial expressions in the performance. We also need to make sure it all flows to look like a good music video.

Video Narrative Story/Shot Sheets

Narrative sheets

Reflection

These story sheets allow us to plan in advance our narrative. This saves us time when we go to shoot as we know exactly what we need to do.  It also means that we can looks at these sheets and ensure we have a wide variety of angles, shots and mes en scene. Not only does this task help us, it also helps our models as they know what they need to be portraying and what facial expressions they need to be making. Our narrative is going to show our young female artist being manipulated.
