A Front Cover Analysed

Throughout this task I have noticed that it is clear that the producers and designers of this magazine have a clear understanding of the demographics, psychographics, and audience segmentation of their target audience. The denotations of this particular front cover is a woman standing with her arms open with text around her. However, if you look closer into the connotations of the woman in particular, there are music notes in her hair. This can further infer that this magazine is aimed at people who engage with the world of music – a subtle yet effective way to draw in the target audience.

This will aid me in the production of my magazine and its cover because I now realise that in order to create a successful magazine, you must consider all demographics, psychographics, and really think about the textual analysis of the front cover – they are all highly important aspects of a front cover. The cover is the most significant part of the magazine as it is what what the readers will see first – it must be effective enough to make the target audience pick it up. I must look at the denotations of my front cover and thoroughly think about what it connotes to the reader.
