The Look Book – The Package

Made with Padlet

Reflection:

We must first better understand the typical conventions of our genre in order to design our own digipak. We have determined the general color schemes, fashion, psycho graphics, demographics, stars of the genre and more from the look book. This material will serve as an example for both our star’s social media page and digipak.

Specsavers Feedback

Feedback:

  • To make a video more enjoyable, add additional effects like zooming in on specific objects instead of having plain cuts. how to do it, too, for the video.

  • Copying effects, if a clip has a good filter that we would like to use in another clip, for example, we can replicate those effects so that we do not have to try and make it look quite accurately as the original one and it will be absolutely identical and even less time consuming.

  • Utilising hue and saturation, you may colour correct our films. To save time and effort, you can choose all the videos you wish to colour correct at once.

The improvements we made as a result of the feedback are mostly summarised above. They also provided assistance in making a clip fit inside a television screen so that we could include our own television in the final product. In addition to various timing adjustments and colour corrections we also made afterwards.

With this video, we were able to learn how to copy effects very quickly. We’re going to adapt these news skills for our upcoming draft 4 music video.

Music Video Draft 3

Improvements:

To conclude the narrative and create a more polished example for our music video, we shot some additional narrative content. Additionally, it enables us to finish lip syncing the entire music video.
To make the clips brighter, darker, or any other color as desired, we used the hue and saturation settings on the clips. This enables us to provide clips for the viewer to be a lot more vivid and appealing to look at.

To improve the editing pace so that it matches the music, we have cut certain footage and added a few others. This is good as it makes the video better quality to watch, it is also one of the typical conventions of a music video.

Our Future Targets:

To improve the pace of the film and make it even more enjoyable to watch, we still need to make a number of adjustments, such as adding more effects or trimming and rearranging pieces. For instance, the scene where the preacher scene had far too long clips that needed to be trimmed.

We still have to add transitions to each segment of the video, which might make it appear better than just doing straight cuts between clips. This will make it easier to distinguish between the performance, the story, and each of the video’s scenarios.

Music Video Draft 2 (Includes shoot 2 footage)

               What went well?

  • Our video’s performance element has come together to create a well-shot band performance.
  • Each clip is well shot and lit, and a variety of shot types are used.
  • Our use of MES adheres to the conventions of our chosen genre while also conveying the personalities of each character to our audience.
  • Our group has all got better at editing

Future improvements and what to do next

  • Add more clips with more frequent cuts while shortening long clips
  • Show a more variety of different editing in the clips
  • Enhance some of our performance clips as needed to make them brighter or darker/appropriate lighting
  • Sync the clips better with the beat

Shoot 2 Reflection (Narrative)

Reflection: For our second shoot, we experimented with various camera angles, camera framing, camera distances and lighting. We went to different locations to record our shoot, this being the water lanes, St. Martins lanes, and St. Martins church. We first went to the water lanes to film the first scene of the story because we were doing the different scenes in order, in which the first location is where the prostitute offers herself. We then went to some backstreets in St. Martins to film our main character being robbed for the second main scene. Finally, we shot our final scene in the scene where the priest is arrested at St. Martins church.

Targets for improvement:  I think to acquire even better footage, everyone should know how to use every function on the DSLR camera. This way we would be able to manipulate things to our advantage for  example, lighting and depth. I also think we should set a time limit for how long we stay at each location so we have a fair enough of footage from each area, otherwise it could be heavy weighted in specific areas which can make parts of the music video lack in footage.

Conclusion: I believe our shoot went well because of the production meeting agenda planning and contributions from each member of the group to bring what was required for the shoot, which allowed us to work efficiently accumulate high-quality footage with fewer disruptions. This whole experience has us ready for any further shoot/reshoots in the near future.

Production Meeting for Shoot 2 (Narrative)

To confirm that our shoot operates as efficiently as possible, it is vital that each member is aware of what tasks they should be doing and when they should be there. By creating this document, each person could very well find it easier to find this information with remote access, resulting in a much more beneficial shoot.

Video Narrative Photo Board/Shot list

This task assisted my group in determining when and where we wanted to do each shoot. We decided on the order in which they should appear. We also looked at some photos for inspiration, which helped us see how our scenes should look. All of these locations we have decided to shoot are all going to be utilized to tell a story in the music video.

Music Video Draft 1 – Rough Cut

Self assessment:

  • Some of our footage was poorly lit, so we increased the brightness
  • We matched the song with the lips (lip syncing) to make it look like he singing the song
  • We used the sharpen tool which focuses soft edges in a photo to increase clarity or focus.
  • We enhanced the hue and saturation so that it enhances the intensity of color in the clips.
  •  We roughly edited to the song’s beat but requires improvement
  • Our MES works extremely well for both the genre and our characters

Targets for improvement:

  • Editing the clips to synchronize to the beat
  • Improve the lighting
  • Use more camera movements
  • Remembering the lyrics to be able to make the lip syncing look more synchronized.
  • Improve time efficiency
  • Make sure to get better quality clips (no blur etc.)

Shoot 1 Reflection (Performance)

What went well?

  • Shots taken from a variety of angles
  • Shots taken from a variety of distances
  • The lighting was good in the clips
  • Good location
  • Not many clips turned out to be blurry
  • Suitable costumes for the shoot

What to improve?

  • We need to be organised and have an order of what clips to shoot.
  • Improving communication, that way things can run more smoothly providing us with more time
  • Try to not get any blurry shots that are not intended
  • Use time more efficiently
  • Enhance lip syncing
  • Remembering the lyrics to the song so you don’t slip up

Targets for second shoot

  • Improve lip syncing
  • Use time more efficiently
  • More organised with what order we’re going to be shooting
  • Get focused shots
  • Use more camera movements
  • Remembering the lyrics to the song
