Final Digipak Draft

Final Draft Of the Digipak:

For our final draft we decided to change some small details such as enhancing the background planets as some viewers had trouble noticing them; we also done a similar thing with the stars as we wanted to create a little more depth. The title and star image have also been enlarged to make it more eye catching for our audience. A border had been added to give a nice small detail. It was decided that we create the artists name bigger so people know straight away who it is and also bolded the numbers on the back cover.

All of these small changes make a significant difference for our album cover. We were able to stick to our first initial idea for our cover but changed the middle panes from our original idea as we felt it was too complex. Our album cover worked well with our mission statement and our brand as it defiantly represent femininity and targets a young female audience.

Tally Chart:

We created a tally chart to see if other student could tell what genre our album was; we were able to print off our cover and put it into a CD case.e The outcome had positive results with pop being the highest however electronica was close behind so for our next draft we need to introduce something new to our cover which allows the audience to separate into more into a pop genre.

Focus foward, When creating our final draft we now only have small changes to make such as adding a filter over the world on the front cover as it currently looks our of place as it has had no further editing. However, really pleased with were our digipak is during this moment in time.

Teacher Feedback

Screen Castify with teacher feedback:

WHAT WENT WELL

  • Title font works well
  • Likes middle pane imagery
  • Layered planets in background
  • Colour theme

EVEN BETTER IF

  • Font for artist names needs to become more modern
  • Title – change ‘and’ for ‘&’
  • Title – Bigger
  • Move song titles up to create more space for images
  • Aline middle panes
  • Add more orange to front cover
  • Bigger star image
  • Move round over lapping background images

Moving forward, we need to experiment with our titles to make it more suitable for our album cover as well as moving the text on the back cover. In our next draft we will also ensure that we link in the orange more with our colour theme to tie it back together. Lastly, we need to go over some alinements like the faint background images on the back cover and middle pane. Doing this will create a more successful digipak which will be more engaging and eye catching towards our target audience.

Digipak Draft 2

Second Draft Of the Digipak:

For the second draft of our digipak we added a pink drop shadow which allows the text to stand out more as well as an outer glow for our star image. To create more of a detailed background we used planets at this correlates well with the earth; we used transparency to highlight some distance. We changes the text on the back pane to bold and white as it made it more eye catching.

These changes are making aspects in our theme link back to one another as it become more eye catching for our target audience.

Digipak Draft One

Frst draft of our digipak front and back cover:

What went well:

  • The colour theme between blues, purple and pinks
  • Affects like the fades between colours: this added some more dimension to the cover.
  • Over laying images; for example, the back cover has the images. Two of the star image and one of the world which are different levels of transparency. The images worked really well together and create a more intriguing cover.

Improvements:

  • Adding more detail to front cover
  • Experimenting fonts
  • Attempting different colours of objects like the globe
  • Adding Artist name

Moving forward, for our second draft we will focus on smaller details as we feel thats import to bring our final design together; Originally our mock up draft was different to our back cover but we decided to change it as we felt this new design was more suitable for our genre and star image.

Evaluation of shoot

Out shoot went really well; we got the main head shots for our front cover. We dressed our star image in an bandeau top so her shoulder were on show. This gave our final images a nice and neutral feel which is what we were aiming for. On the day we had some spare props and time therefore we shot some extra photos; we loved how they came out with a pink silk theme. We took this to use on our social media page which we will create in the near future.

Making a risk assessment before hand help the production of the shoot run smoothly as were able to get everything ready before hand and didn’t run into any problems. In a future shoot I would like to play around with coloured lighting as it would suit our star image well; our digipak will be very bright and colourful so doing with will work well with our genre.

PMA and Risk Assessment for DP shoot

Creating a risk assessment with my partner is important as we both need to be able to have a clear idea on what we want to shoot; this enables us to have good communication and to be able to prepare  for our shoot.

For our shoot we wanted a very simple look; it was for the front cover of a digipak which would be above shoulders and later on we will use photo shop to cut out the top half of her head. As it was a very close up image which shows only half her face we felt having a very minimal star image would look best on a busy cover.

Contact Sheet or Graphics / illustrations Drafts Ideas

These are the photos that came from our first shoot for our front cover:

From this photoshoot we were able to get a good range of photos with a variety of mes en scene; we used a range of backdrops for our shots such as high shots, mid shots. We used pink clothing to extenuate the femininity within our brand. We were also able to get a photo of a globe in which we will use on our front cover for our digipak.

DP mockup

As we create our digipak we need to make a rough draft. Doing this we can get our initial ideas onto paper; from here we will create a plan on what we need to do to create this cover. It is important that we are able to highlight our music genre which we will do by add a lot of bright colours to represent that Pop / R&B aspect.

When it come to creating our digipak we will have the star image on the front cover; we feel is important for an upcoming artist as we what it to be eye catching for her brand. We have encoded and decoded the repertoire elements which help us understand what is significant for our audience. The style, colours and theme are all aspects that need to be able to work together.

Moving forward, as we create our cover we need to meet our audiences preferred readings (Hall’s Theory) as it will give us a better result on our finished product.

Digipak Conventions Analysis

I have researched the artist Tyler the creator; I used this album cover as I thought it was unique and intriguing. Analysing a CD cover helps inspired me on what repertoire elements I need to include.

I now understand what technical conventions I should include in my digipak to portray my music genre and what denotations to use to highlight my star image. I found researching other album cover very helpful as I now understand what my target audience looks for within a pop / R&B genre. This is important as I will interpret this within my own digipak.
